About Daniel Cameron

Daniel Cameron serves as the 51st Attorney General for the Commonwealth of Kentucky after winning nearly 58 percent of the vote and 113 of 120 counties.

Daniel is the first African American elected to a standalone statewide office in Kentucky’s history. He is the first Republican to hold the office of Attorney General since 1948.

Daniel grew up in Elizabethtown. His parents owned a coffee shop, and Daniel was active in youth sports and his local church. He graduated from John Hardin High School, and he attended the University of Louisville, where he played football for the Cardinals – though Daniel likes to remind everyone that he had the best seat in the house, which was on the bench.

After graduating from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law, he clerked for a federal judge. A few years after clerking, Daniel served in Washington, D.C. as legal counsel to United States Senator Mitch McConnell. There, he helped with the confirmation processes for President Trump’s conservative federal judges, including Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

As Attorney General, Daniel is committed to defending the laws of the Commonwealth and protecting all Kentuckians. To address Kentucky’s drug epidemic, Daniel helped secure legislation that ensures Kentucky receives the maximum amount of money available to it as part of the national settlement with opioid manufacturers and distributors.

Daniel is an advocate for the unborn and continues to defend Kentucky’s pro-life laws in court. He also led the effort to keep churches and houses of worship open during the pandemic. And he has vigorously opposed and won challenges to the Biden Administration’s unconstitutional vaccine mandates for private businesses.

As Governor, Daniel will fight hard to support law enforcement. A Cameron Administration means that victims – not criminals – get our priority. Daniel was honored to be endorsed during his 2019 campaign for Attorney General by the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police.

Daniel and his wife, Makenze, live in the Louisville area. They welcomed their first child, Theodore, into the world in 2022, and he has been a wonderful gift from God. The Camerons believe that Kentucky can be the best place in America to live, work, worship, and raise a family.
