Rep. Buck Introduces Bill to Increase Penalties for Violent Rioters

In response to the latest reports of ANTIFA and other left-wing groups inciting riots and violently attacking peaceful demonstrators over the weekend, Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) introduced the Blocking Rioters and Insurrectionists from our Cities to Keep us Safe (BRICKS) Act. This bill increases penalties for inciting, organizing, aiding, abetting, or funding rioting (18 USC, Sec. 2101) from five years to 10 years. The BRICKS Act also adds an escalator clause in which penalties may increase to 25 years in prison if serious bodily injury is inflicted. Violators may face up to life in prison if death results from their actions.

This legislation comes after Rep. Buckโ€™s letter to Attorney General William Barr last month urging the Department of Justice to investigate individuals and groups responsible for funding, organizing, inciting, and participating in riots.

Congressman Ken Buck (R-Colo.) said:

โ€œThis year, weโ€™ve seen an unprecedented amount of violence from riots organized by ANTIFA and other radical leftist groups. Itโ€™s time to take action against anarchist groups that have wreaked havoc across the country and the BRICKS Act does just that,โ€ย Rep. Buck said.ย โ€œIn order to truly restore unity in this country, Congress must support efforts like this to stop the violence perpetrated by the far left. We need to restore the livelihoods of our communities and hold these criminals accountable for their large-scale destruction once and for all.โ€
