TRUMP, THE ICON

The battle for America through the eyes of an immigrant

The US presidential race is in full swing. Political polarization is unprecedented. MAGA, America First & American Exceptionalism vs. DEI, New Green Deal & Racial Reparations. What to choose?

I will start with my reason for choosing America. Born and raised in a socialist country, I grew up with leftist slogans and political conjurations. Phrases such as “Triumphant Socialism,” “The Most Progressive and Just Society,” and “Rotting Capitalism” were constant features of all news, cultural events, and even school celebrations. In fact, they were mandatory, alternative views were not allowed. There was no freedom of speech, no free press โ€“ everything was brutally controlled by the government. Until President Reagan declared America’s determination to oppose “The Evil Empire”- then, socialism collapsed, and we could speak freely and travel abroad.

On my first trip to America, I was struck by the feeling of freedom, positivism, safety, and common sense I had never experienced before. The government was telling no one how or where to live, what, and how to speak. As an attorney, I was thrilled to understand America’s legal system. I was surprised to learn that the U.S. Constitution is not just a Law of Laws, the highest law of the land, as almost everywhere else, but rather a “straitjacket” of the federal government that sets clear boundaries of its power and guarantees that it cannot become a ruler of people’s lives. I was amazed at how the First Amendment’s freedoms work, showing me why America is the greatest place on Earth. Freedom is her very heart โ€“ to the level that cannot be easily understood by the rest of the world. In short โ€“ I fell in love with America and became a U.S. citizen.

I believe that everyone coming to America has their reasons for doing so. But certainly, there is something in common for millions of immigrants from all over the world who strived to become Americans. Irish, Germans, Italians, Jews, Chinese, Filipinos, Indians, and many others โ€“ their way to America was not incentivized by social programs or politically organized caravans. They were fascinated by an inimitable reality that offers anyone a dignified life, great freedom, and unlimited pursuit of happiness. Of course, America is not perfect, but it is by far the freest and most prosperous society humanity has ever been able to create. A โ€œlight on a hillโ€, which leads the world and gives it hope.

And this is the truth that the enemies of freedom fear most. That’s why the brutal Soviet propaganda vilified America. For the same reason now, her domestic haters are trying to tell you a different story of a racist, oppressive, and unfair America. But they have a problem โ€“ millions like me, who know exactly why we are here.

“We are not going back” – is the election slogan of the Democratic presidential nominee. The implication is clear – America is bad, and we will radically transform it. In fact, they’ve already done a lot. Selective justice (2020 riots v. January 6th), weaponization of the Department of Justice (Trump, Navarro, Bannon, Stone, โ€ฆ.), demonization of law enforcement (โ€œDefund the Policeโ€), sacrificing America’s energy independence, the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants, and suppression of free speech. The Biden/Harris regime is very consistent in transforming America into her opposite โ€“ ideology replaces common sense, the rule of law bends to political expediency, and freedom of speech is swept by the rage of the โ€œpeacefully protestingโ€ mobs. And, of course, Itโ€™s all Trump to blame โ€“ including two assassination attempts on … Trump. The radical left despises America โ€“ for them, it is just a means for more riches and more power. They are going nowhere. But I and millions like me who know what socialism means – we are not going back.

To me, the โ€œprogressive” recipe to transform America is obvious โ€“ always do the opposite of whatโ€™s right, create crises everywhere, demonize political opponents, and insist the government solve all the problems theyโ€™ve made. In addition, they need an existential threat – Russia is a good choice (either through โ€œelection interferenceโ€, or war with some neighbor), the world pandemic helps a lot, and global warming always does the job. And donโ€™t forget โ€“ any doubt or disagreement is a conspiracy theory. The mainstream media is ours, so let’s do it.

And they are doing it. They’ve done it in 2020 with Russiaโ€™s hoax, Bidensโ€™ cover-ups, Covid-19 selective hysteria, impeachments, mail-in ballot soap opera … The result was an installation in the White House of a senile crook, cashing in his political office for decades, on whose watch we suffer skyrocketing inflation, weak economy, open borders, and crime hike. On foreign policy – Russia invaded Ukraine, Hamas attacked Israel, and Americaโ€™s geopolitical foes are forming strategic alliances.

Following a similar pattern, the โ€œprogressiveโ€ 2024 repertoire includes the January 6th grotesque, FBI raids of Mar-A-Lago, police mugshots of the former president, jail time for Trump allies, the lawsuits, and the โ€œthreat to democracyโ€ narrative. Just in case, some freelancers are helping with rifles. The next goal of the unceasing election interference is the replacement of the needless crook with his silly laughing vice, notably famous for political flip-flops and meaningless word salads. Knowing Bidenโ€™s legacy, what to expect from Harris โ€“ government price regulation, coupons for gas, packing the Supreme Court, ban on X, and nuclear conflict with Russia?

Can America survive another four years of government-orchestrated insanity? Very unlikely. So the stakes of the upcoming election are huge. With all his flaws and failures, Donald Trump emerged as a symbol of that crucial battle. An American icon – hated by America’s enemies, misunderstood by the rest of the world, and loved by “We, The People”.

Like America itself.
