Trump’s Special Envoy responds to Zelenskyy’s claim of unreceived aid

The United States closely monitors where its aid to Ukraine is spent. Special inspectors general are in charge of control, said Keith Kellogg, Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.

US assistance to Ukraine

Kellogg was asked to comment on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s statement that Ukraine had received $76 billion in military aid from the United States, although the US government had allocated $177 billion for this purpose.

“We’re scratching our heads too. The USA, the American citizens, have given Ukraine over $174 billion. We have put inspectors general on the ground in Ukraine to track this money,” Kellogg said.

He added that the US knows where the money goes.

Kellogg clarified that part of the allocated funds had been spent on weapons production in the US before being sent to Ukraine.

The US Special Envoy added that the US will replenish and expand its stockpiles, which is why weapons need to be purchased in the US.

Elections in Ukraine

Kellogg also touched on the topic of the elections in Ukraine. He stated that every democratic state must hold elections and that the elections used to be held even during wars.

However, he noted that Ukraine is unable to hold the elections at the moment, as it would contradict the Ukrainian Constitution.

“You are going to reach a point when you have elections, and that is a sign of a healthy democracy. That doesn’t mean that Zelenskyy should leave. The sign of a healthy democracy is a willingness and the ability to have elections even in the time of war. So, I think it’s a healthy sign,” Kellogg added.

US aid to Ukraine continues

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that US aid to Ukraine is ongoing, despite the absence of new aid packages.

He added that it is still too early to discuss new assistance packages for Ukraine.
