James Carville Tells Democrats Opposing Trump to ‘Just Let It Go’ and ‘Do Nothing’ for Now

Democratic strategist James Carville advised Democratic politicians to “do nothing” to oppose President Donald Trump – at least for now.

With full Republican control of the government, Democrats have limited options for opposing Trump’s agenda, which includes his billionaire benefactor Elon Musk going from one government department to another under the pretext of “cutting costs” in a way that is “violating the law right and left,” according to one former White House ethics lawyer.

On Monday, several large protests were held across the country to protest Trump and Musk. Later, on MSNBC’s The Beat, host Ari Melber asked Carville for his reaction to the demonstrations.

“It’s addressing a lot of concerns about the current agenda,” Melber said. “Even if they’re anti-Trump voters. They’re calling out a lot of things that they say exceed the president’s authority, or are dangerous, or are gutting… the federal government. What’s happening here?”

Carville expressed support for the demonstrations, but had a word of caution for Democratic politicians.

“This is happening all around the country,” he replied. “So the question is, how should Democratic politicians respond to this? And what I think they should do is what we call in rural America, play possum. Just let it go. Don’t get in the way of it. Or as we like to say, don’t just stand there, do nothing. Let this germinate… We don’t need to get in front of it. This freight train is moving. Let’s just get out of the way and then we’re gonna have time.”

Melber responded, “That makes sense.”
