President Donald Trump has entered his second term as president vowing to stop the hemorrhaging flow of American dollars out of the country as well as illegal aliens and drugs into the country. Today marks the day some of those new Trump tariffs go into effect.

American dollars are the de facto standard of currency around the world and sought all around the world. The thing is though, for America, our dollars are like water.

If water is not properly contained it flows all out everywhere as it seeks its own level. Using this analogy means America and Americans are left higher and drier than if we would have stopped that flow of our currency to others around the world.

Some call this โ€œprotectionismโ€. Patriots would call those some โ€œglobalistsโ€.

In other words, much of the problem is related to the age-old Bible lesson of โ€œfree willโ€ or โ€œchoiceโ€. Americans have a choice of buying an expensive exotic automobile from Europe or they can buy American. They can buy an inexpensive automobile made with non-union labor out of Asia or they can buy American. The problem is highlighted by this Trump Administration when President Trump correctly points out many of these countries do not even allow American automobiles to be sold there, or, if they do, they make it very difficult for them to compete.

For example; When I was a young man in engineering school, I remember a Japanese exchange student telling our class how American automobiles are sold in Japan but Chrysler, Ford, and GM were not allowed to advertise using periodicals, billboards, or broadcast media. This highlighted the problem of American businesses doing business abroad.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) recently had this to say about the tariffs ordered by President Trump.

โ€œYes I support President Trumpโ€™s tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China. Here is why.

An average of 300 Americans are murdered every single day from fentanyl that comes directly from China into Mexico and Canada then the Mexican cartels smuggle it into America through both borders.

Yes there are Mexican cartels operating in Canada now.

Canada and Mexico have not stopped the multi-billion dollar Mexican cartels from the intense flow of human trafficking and drug trafficking across our southern border and northern border and China has not stopped sending poisonous fentanyl to the Mexican cartels to murder our people.

And itโ€™s not just fentanyl, the horrifying effects of drug and human trafficking are the decay of our society, and Americans have been forced to pay for it all by our inept leaders.

Shame on the governments of Canada, Mexico, and China for what they have done to America.

While trade accounts for 67% of Canadaโ€™s GDP, 73% of Mexicoโ€™s GDP, and 37% of Chinaโ€™s GDP, it accounts for only 24% of U.S. GDP. However, in 2023 the U.S. trade deficit in goods was the worldโ€™s largest at over $1 trillion.

We will win this trade war.โ€

Both Canada and Mexico have placed exorbitant tariffs on American goods coming into their countries to discourage consumption of American products in their countries.

For example, tariffs charged on U.S. products by Canada have been:

  • Aluminum – 45%
  • Barley – 58%ย
  • Beef – 77%
  • Butter – 298%ย
  • Cars – 45% (and Canada doesnโ€™t even make cars)
  • Consumer electronics – 45%
  • Copper – 48%
  • Cheese – 245%ย
  • Eggs – 66%
  • Flour – 40%
  • HVAC – 45%
  • Milk – 270%ย
  • Orange Juice – 25%
  • Peanut Butter – 25%
  • Poultry – 230%ย
  • Sausages – 70%
  • Steel – 25%
  • Wheat โ€“ 38%
โ€œWhy Tariffs will benefit America and why having a Tariff War with America will be the downfall of Canada and Mexicoโ€ – Random Facts of the World

So, as this video correctly points out for all the TDS slow thinkers talking โ€œTrumpโ€™s Trade War with our friends of Mexico and Canadaโ€โ€ฆ

In 2023 Canada sent 76% of all of their products to the United States which was 19% of their GDP. In 2024 Mexico sent 78% of all of their products to the United States which was 37% of their GDP (this is not including their trade in illegal drugs and human trafficking which isnโ€™t tracked of course).

Meanwhile all of our products exported to both of these countries combined was only 2.7% of our U.S. GDP.

It doesnโ€™t take a math major to figure out who is going to come out ahead in this โ€œtrade warโ€.

The American news media has an ethical and professional obligation to start reporting the facts as we do here at The Thinking Conservative. This information above is fact!

Reporting these facts changes the whole complexion of President Trump and his tariffs!

CONCLUSION:

Despite all of the bad and false publicity that โ€œTrumpโ€™s tariffs wonโ€™t workโ€, in fact there are multiple indicators they are working already.

  • Apple: $500 billion investment in U.S.
  • Honda: Moving production from Mexico to U.S. (Indiana)
  • Hyundai and Kia: announce plans to bring auto production to U.S.
  • TSMS: $100 billion chip investment U.S.
  • Canada: Places troops on the U.S. northern border
  • Mexico: Places troops on the U.S. southern border
  • Columbia: Taking their illegal alien citizens back

I was shocked to learn when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020 that over 80% of our prescription drugs were made in China. That is yet another industry that needs to be โ€œbrought homeโ€ since most of the research and development begins here. To me, China making the bulk of our medications poses a National Security Threat.

One of the most idiotic arguments going on in the country right now is centered around โ€œWho pays for the Trump tariffs on foreign goods?โ€

People who hate Trump and want to see him fail say, โ€œAmericans will pay for those tariffs at the checkout line.โ€

People who love Trump and want to see him succeed say, โ€œThe country of origin of the product with the high tariff will pay as the product enters our country.โ€

In fact, both could be right, both could be partially right, and both could be completely wrong.

For example; it is possible Americans will have to shell out more for things such as avocados but it is also possible Mexico will have to lower their suggested wholesale price of avocados.

However, if other countries trade more effectively with the U.S., with or without tariffs, it is possible avocados will be imported from them rather than Mexico which will ultimately hurt Mexico. Other places where avocados grow include Peru, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Indonesia, Brazil, Kenya, and the United States (California).

This example was used as Mexico itself threatened us with more expensive avocados which showed their desperation.

โ€œKaroline Leavitt Peppered With Questions About Trumpโ€™s Tariff On Canada: Was It โ€˜Impulseโ€™?โ€ – Forbes

What tariffs really mean is more Americans will be choosing to buy American or buy foreign goods with low prices from countries favorable to the U.S. This will create more jobs for Americans by more companies investing in America to avoid paying tariffs, and cheaper prices for American consumers long-term. More American dollars will remain in America.

President Trump is not the bad man here. He has suggested both reciprocal tariffs and no tariffs at all as workable solutions to attain a truly โ€œfree global marketโ€.

For Canada, China, and Mexico to โ€œstay the courseโ€ as a choice, is on them. America wants and needs trade parity.

As Dad used to say, โ€œWith friends like these guys, who needs enemies?โ€
