Trump Seeks Names and Countries of International Students at Harvard

It follows a judgeโ€™s ruling blocking the federal government from revoking Harvardโ€™s ability to enroll foreign students.

President Donald Trump on May 25 said he wanted the names and countries of origin of foreign students at Harvard days after a federal judge blocked his administration from trying to stop the university from enrolling foreign students.

โ€œWhy isnโ€™t Harvard saying that almost 31% of their students are from FOREIGN LANDS, and yet those countries, some not at all friendly to the United States, pay NOTHING toward their studentโ€™s education, nor do they ever intend to,โ€ Trump wrote in a social media post on Sunday.

โ€œWe want to know who those foreign students are, a reasonable request since we give Harvard BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, but Harvard isnโ€™t exactly forthcoming. We want those names and countries.โ€

On May 22, the Department of Homeland Security revoked certification of Harvard Universityโ€™s foreign student admissions program.

โ€œThis administration is holding Harvard accountable for fostering violence, antisemitism, and coordinating with the Chinese Communist Party on its campus,โ€ Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem wrote in a social media post.

She sent a letter to the university accusing it of failing to adhere to โ€œreporting requirements under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program regulationsโ€ and for โ€œperpetuating an unsafe campus environment that is hostile to Jewish students, promotes pro-Hamas sympathiesโ€ and for employing โ€œracist โ€˜diversity, equity, and inclusionโ€™ policies.โ€

Harvard responded by calling the action unlawful.

โ€œWe are fully committed to maintaining Harvardโ€™s ability to host our international students and scholars, who hail from more than 140 countries and enrich the Universityโ€”and this nationโ€”immeasurably,โ€ Harvard University spokesman Jason Newton told The Epoch Times in an email.

โ€œWe are working quickly to provide guidance and support to members of our community. This retaliatory action threatens serious harm to the Harvard community and our country, and undermines Harvardโ€™s academic and research mission.โ€

After the university sued the Trump administration, a federal judge on Friday issued a temporary injunction blocking the Homeland Security Department from revoking Harvardโ€™s ability to enroll foreign students.
