Boulder, Colorado Attack Suspect: What We Know

Contact Your Elected Officials

A 45-year-old man was arrested after multiple people were injured.

Authorities have arrested Mohamed Soliman, 45, after multiple people were injured during a pro-Israel demonstration in Boulder, Colorado, on June 1.

Here’s what we know about the suspect.

Soliman Allegedly Targeted Demonstrators

The attack on the pro-Israel group Run For Their Lives, who gather weekly to raise awareness of Israeli hostages still in Gaza, was a “targeted act of violence,” Boulder FBI special agent in charge Mark Michalek told reporters during a press conference.

Soliman, in the early afternoon on Sunday, used a makeshift flamethrower and threw an incendiary device into the crowd, leaving eight people injured, according to law enforcement officials.

Soliman was heard shouting “Free Palestine,” Michalek said.

Bystander videos allegedly showed the suspect saying “how many children have you killed,” and “we have to end Zionists,” according to the Anti-Defamation League.

The attack unfolded in an area in downtown Boulder known as the Pearl Street pedestrian mall. FBI Director Kash Patel said in a statement that it was a terror attack.

“This attack was aimed against peaceful people who wished to express their solidarity with the hostages held by Hamas, simply because they were Jews,” Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a statement.

Suspect Illegally in the United States

Soliman entered the United States at some point between early 2021 and early 2025, according to the White House.

He was granted a visa during that time, Stephen Miller, a White House deputy chief of staff, wrote on social media platform X.

Soliman overstayed his visa, meaning he is in the country illegally, according to Miller.

“Immigration security is national security. No more hostile migration. Keep them out and send them back,” he wrote.

The Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement did not respond to requests for comment.

“We are working with our interagency partners, including the FBI, and will share more information as soon as it becomes available,” Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said on X.

‘Justice for the Victims’

Michael Dougherty, Boulder County’s district attorney, vowed to secure justice for the victims.

Dougherty told reporters that his office is working with federal prosecutors and law enforcement to gather all the necessary information before charging him.

“That is my promise: to hold the attacker fully accountable,” Dougherty said.

He added later that officials are going to “secure justice for the victims and their family members.”

It is not clear whether Soliman has retained legal counsel.

Suspect Booked

Soliman suffered minor injuries, according to Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfearn. He was examined at a hospital before being booked into the Boulder County Jail. He is listed as being held on a $10 million bond on charges including felony use of incendiary devices.

Authorities do not believe there are any additional suspects at this time.

The eight victims range in age from 52 to 88.

Two were airlifted to Denver, with the rest being rushed to a hospital in Boulder.

One of the victims was “very seriously injured,” Redfearn said, while the others suffered “more minor injuries.”
