China Helping Russia Target Ukraine With Missile Strikes: Ukrainian Official

A Ukraine Foreign Intelligence Agency official said there is evidence of China helping to identify targets in Ukraine.

China is helping Russia target sites in Ukraine for missile strikes, a senior intelligence official told Ukraine state media on Saturday, Oct. 4.

Oleh Aleksandrov, an official with Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Agency, told state media Ukrinform that China is helping Russia target specific sites for missile strikes.

“There is evidence of a high level of cooperation between Russia and China in conducting satellite reconnaissance of Ukraine’s territory to identify and reconnoiter strategic targets for destruction,” said Aleksandrov. “At the same time, as we have seen in recent months, these targets may belong to foreign investors.”

According to Ukrinform, the intelligence service has not disclosed the targets in Ukraine that were hit using Chinese satellite intelligence.

The release comes just days after The Wall Street Journal and Reuters reported that the United States may give Kyiv targeting intelligence for energy infrastructure deep inside Russia, such as refineries, pipelines, and power plants.

Responding to the above U.S. media reports, the Kremlin said on Oct. 2 that it believes the United States and NATO already regularly provide Ukraine with battlefield intelligence.

“The United States of America transmits intelligence to Ukraine on a regular basis online,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters in Moscow.

“The supply and use of the entire infrastructure of NATO and the United States to collect and transfer intelligence to Ukrainians is obvious.”

Russia Attacks Ukraine Energy Infrastructure

In the early hours of Oct. 5, Russia attacked with more than 50 missiles and about 500 attack drones, targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

According to a statement by Ukraine’s Energy Ministry on Facebook, a significant number of customers lost power. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X that the drones used by Russia require over 100,000 foreign-made components.

After the early morning attack, Zelenskyy called for a stronger response from the world to stop the supply of parts reaching Russia. He highlighted that many components Russia cannot produce on its own, especially the 96 foreign-made component parts of the Russian Kh-47M2 Kinzhal missile.

“Among the manufacturers are companies from the United States, China, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, the Republic of Korea, and the Netherlands,” Zelenskyy wrote on X. “There are schemes spanning multiple countries. All of this must be stopped.”

Foreign assistance with intelligence and resources to fight the war continue to play a significant role in the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
