Prince Andrew Stripped of Titles, Evicted From Royal Residence

He will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

Prince Andrew was evicted from his royal residence and stripped of all his remaining titles by his older brother, King Charles III, on Oct. 30.

The decision came amid mounting pressure for the royal family to act on Andrew’s relationship with deceased sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and ongoing allegations surrounding it.

“These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement. “Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse.”

Before the king’s move, Andrew had stepped away from public life and already voluntarily relinquished nearly all of his royal titles, including Duke of York, Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order, and Royal Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, due to allegations from Virginia Roberts Giuffre.

Andrew had initially intended to remain a prince, a title he had held since his birth due to his being the son of the late Queen Elizabeth II. He also intended for his daughters, Beatrice and Eugenie, to retain their princess titles.

However, the palace said that King Charles III “initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles, and Honours of Prince Andrew,” and that included his “prince” title. He would be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor from now on.

The palace also said that he would move from his Royal Lodge residence into “private accommodation.”

Giuffre alleged she was trafficked by Epstein and was sexually abused by Andrew when she was 17. She died in April at the age of 41, with her family saying it was a suicide.

Published earlier this month, her memoir, “Nobody’s Girl,” detailed three alleged sexual encounters with Andrew. She sued him in 2021, and the case was settled in 2022 for an undisclosed amount.Andrew continued to deny the allegations, but acknowledged Epstein was a sex offender and Giuffre was “an established victim of abuse,” in a statement filed with the court.

Earlier this month, new emails emerged showing Andrew had remained in contact with Epstein longer than he previously admitted.

The prince’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, would lose her title as Duchess of York. Several charities cut ties with her after British newspapers shared an email she wrote to Epstein in which she described him as a “supreme friend.”
