Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Says She’s Resigning From Congress

The move came amid a fallout with President Donald Trump.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced on Nov. 21 that she is resigning from Congress, with her resignation taking effect on Jan. 5, 2026.

Greene posted a video, along with a lengthy statement, on social media explaining her decision, citing a recent fallout with President Donald Trump, who has withdrawn his support for her.

“I have too much self respect and dignity, love my family way too much, and do not want my sweet district to have to endure a hurtful and hateful primary against me by the President we all fought for, only to fight and win my election while Republicans will likely lose the midterms,” she stated.

“And in turn, be expected to defend the President against impeachment after he hatefully dumped tens of millions of dollars against me and tried to destroy me.

“It’s all so absurd and completely unserious. I refuse to be a ‘battered wife’ hoping it all goes away and gets better.”

Greene said she had “fought harder than almost any other elected Republicans” to get Trump elected, though she had disagreed with the administration in “a few areas.”

“Loyalty should be a two way street and we should be able to vote our conscience and represent our district’s interest because our job title is literally, ‘Representative,’” she said.

Trump pulled his support last week and announced he would back another Republican candidate in Georgia’s primary—a move Greene alleged was a response to her calls for the release of the Epstein files.

Trump said at the time that Greene, who was elected to represent Georgia’s 14th congressional district in 2020 and has been a strong advocate for his “Make America Great Again” agenda, diverged from him after he suggested she should not run for senator or governor.

“It seemed to all begin when I sent her a Poll stating that she should not run for Senator, or Governor, she was at 12%, and didn’t have a chance (unless, of course, she had my Endorsement—which she wasn’t about to get!),” Trump stated.

“She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead.”

The president also said that all Greene did was “COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN” despite his “creating Record Achievements for our Country.”

On Nov. 19, Trump signed into law a bill to release the Epstein files after calls from numerous lawmakers. He previously alleged that Democrats were using the Epstein files as a “hoax” to deflect blame for the government shutdown and distract the public from his administration’s work.
