Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs & Rules Committees to Convene 2nd Hearing on Federal Intelligence and Response to January 6th Attack

WASHINGTON, D.C. โ€“ U.S. Senators Gary Peters (D-MI) and Rob Portman (R-OH), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, and Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Roy Blunt (R-MO), Chairwoman and Ranking Member of the Committee on Rules and Administration, announced their second joint oversight hearing on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at 10:00AM to continue their examination of the security and intelligence failures that led to a breach of the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.

The committees are seeking testimony from federal national security and counterterrorism agencies on their roles in intelligence gathering, security preparations and the response to the attack on the U.S Capitol.

The following witnesses are confirmed:

  • Robert Salesses, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Homeland Defense and Global Security, Department of Defense;
  • Jill Sanborn, Assistant Director, Counterterrorism Division, Federal Bureau of Investigation; and
  • Melissa Smislova, Senior Official Performing the Duties of the Under Secretary, Office of Intelligence and Analysis, Department of Homeland Security.

This is the second joint hearing examining the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The previous hearing featured testimony from current and former officials responsible for securing the area surrounding the U.S. Capitol on the preparations and response efforts on January 6,2021.
