Chart of the Day: CBS Polling Gaslights Viewers to Show Republicans Don’t Care About “Democracy”

5Mind. The Meme Platform

The 2022 midterm election is already underway – millions have voted, and tens of millions more will before Nov. 8. Amid that, eight in 10 likely voters describe things in the country today as “out of control,” as opposed to “under control.”

That doesn’t bode well for the party in power. Republicans are winning those who say “out of control” right now by more than 20 points, though they’re often the ones feeling that way, to begin with. See this in the chart below and learn more here.

But CBS goes on to gaslight its viewers in an attempt to say the Republicans don’t care about a functioning “democracy.” Aside from the issue that America is not a “democracy” but rather a Constitutional Republic, polling often is in the way one asks the question.

The mainstream media has bombarded the public with the notion that Republicans (specifically MAGA Republicans) are election deniers and insurrectionists, as portrayed in the now infamous January 6th Democrat show trial. Mainstream media suggest that this is what is causing Americans to fear a failure in the functioning “democracy” and an out-of-control government. In the polling question asked, they make it appear that Republicans only care about their pocketbook and not about our functioning Republic. See this in the infographic below.

So in this light, when you ask the question about the functioning “democracy,” one may consider this a sleight of hand agreement with the Democrat party narratives. If they asked the same question differently, they would get very different responses. Consider the following examples.

  • Do you fear America is losing its “democracy” because of the events of January 6th and that many voters refuse to accept the outcomes of elections?
  • Do you fear America is losing its “democracy” because there are many election integrity issues unresolved, and the government has weaponized various agencies (FBI, DoJ, for example) to target political parties?

The outcome of these questions would be very different than the question posed in the cited polling by CBS. See this CBS gaslighting in the following “Face the Nation” video clip below.

Battleground Tracker: GOP heads into final week with lead in seats

To exemplify even more this point consider another poll recently done. An overwhelming majority of Americans agree the nation’s democracy is in trouble, but Democrats and Republicans seem to be living in two separate realities when it comes to what – and who – is putting the country at risk, according to the latest PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll. See more details of this poll here in graphic form.

Eighty-one percent of U.S. adults say the future of U.S. democracy is under threat, a sentiment shared by most Republicans, Democrats, and independents (see feature photo of this article). But when they were asked which party poses the bigger risk, it was a statistical tie between people who said the Democratic Party (42 percent) and the Republican Party (41 percent). An additional 8 percent of Americans blame both parties for playing a role. See this in the infographic below.

As stated earlier, often, these kinds of polls are not necessarily wrong. One just has to really understand what is being asked and analyze the responses accordingly. Unfortunately, many Americans do not think critically with understanding.
