Chart of the Day: San Francisco Pelosi Attack Emblematic of Woke Cities

After the recent horrific attack on Paul Pelosi, the husband of the Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, many Democrats sounded off and accused โ€œfar right-wingโ€ leaning people of inciting political violence in America.

The reality is that it may be (though an ongoing investigation) merely a product of the rising crime and insanity in our culture driven by โ€œwokeโ€ policies in many large blue cities. The proof of this is in the numbers. Major crimes in San Francisco are up 7.4 percent so far this year from the same period in 2021, with assault up 11.1 percent and robbery up 5.2 percent. See this and more details in the chart below and learn more here.

Two-thirds of San Franciscans say their โ€œfentanyl-ravagedโ€ city has gone to the dogs because of homelessness, crime, and extortionate house prices. Two-thirds of San Francisco residents say their city is going downhill from when they originally came to San Francisco. See this in detail in the following chart.

Frustration with San Franciscoโ€™s decline has intensified in recent months, with the ejection of progressive DA Chesa Boudin in a recall election following community outrage over his perceived soft policies. See this in detail in the following chart.

Some residents blame Mayor London Breed, whose earlier popularity for steering the city through the pandemic appears to have waned amid rising crime, the fentanyl epidemic, and other woes.

Amid scenes of misery on city streets, where drug use is brazen, and homelessness is rampant, a recent poll found that a majority of San Franciscans believe their city is going downhill, and a third plan to leave the city within three years. See this in the following chart.

People are voting with their feet. Emblematic of the times in San Francisco, a luxury Four Seasons apartment high-rise located steps from San Franciscoโ€™s notorious open-air drug market has sold just 13 of its 146 units in the two years since the building opened.

The Tower Residences, which features a $49million penthouse, views of the San Francisco Bay, and a host of amenities โ€“ including a car elevator โ€“ is located smack in the middle of the Tenderloin and SoMa neighborhoods, which have become the epicenters of the beleaguered cityโ€™s crime and drug problems. It sits just four blocks from San Franciscoโ€™s infamous Tenderloin Linkage Center.

San Francisco is emblematic of what is happening all across America. America is on the move like never before. Some would say at a tectonic level, and for many, the driver is as much political as it is economical. The top five states seeing a mass exodus are all Democrat-controlled. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, California, New York, New Jersey, Michigan, and Illinois lost a combined 4 million residents between 2010 and 2019.

Regardless of the specifics of the recent case with the events surrounding the Paul Pelosi attack, the data is clear. The woke policies of many Democratic-run cities are driving many to flee.
