IAP War Room: Reigning In Big Tech

The Internet Accountability Project Big Tech War Room will serve as a hub for resources and content about the IAP’s efforts to rein in Big Tech. We hope you will be inspired to contact your U.S. Senators and Members of Congress and ask them to vote for pending legislation to modernize our century-old antitrust laws. These bills will bring free speech, choice and accountability back to the internet.

The tech giants have silenced conservative voices for years, dictated our culture and even interfered with our elections. Dr. Robert Epstein, the former editor of Psychology Todayfound that Googleโ€™s liberal bias shifted millions of votes to the Democrat candidates in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.

Amazon has gone out of its way to censor any dissent. It targeted books calling out COVID-19 lockdowns and vaccine mandates. Amazon also removed a book by conservative scholar Ryan T. Anderson entitled, โ€œWhen Harry Became Sally: Responding to the Transgender Moment.โ€ In a letter explaining its reasoning, Amazon said, โ€œwe have chosen not to sell books that frame LGBTQ+ identity as a mental illness.โ€ This is the same Amazon that in 2011 refused to remove a book called, โ€œThe Pedophileโ€™s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-loverโ€™s Code of Conductโ€ on free speech grounds.

In the wake of the events of January 6, 2021, Apple took it upon themselves to boot Parler from the App Store hosted by the tech giant. Even though it was proven later on that Parlerโ€™s role in January 6th was inflated by left-wing partisans, Apple still decided to act unilaterally to appease their liberal base.

Facebook, meanwhile, is busy covering for Democrats. The Media Research Center found that it censored hundreds of articles criticizing Biden over the past two years. Additionally, in 2020, Mark Zuckerberg spent over $400M of his own money to play a role in elections across the United States, which many believe helped Democrats.

Liberal bias is nothing new โ€“ the unique issue with Silicon Valley is the unprecedented amount of power possessed by these companies. Just a few corporations in California are in a position to influence who wins elections, what you can think, and what you can write. Thatโ€™s no exaggeration. Google Docs, for example, has suggested people use โ€œhumankindโ€ instead of โ€œmankind.โ€

Liberals are abusing this monopoly over the internet to push their social, economic, political and cultural interests. There is only one way to stop it and that is to rein in these tech giants. Antitrust legislation means a freer internet โ€“ one where you can consume the content you choose and vote for the candidate you support without being exposed to the political agenda of woke corporations.
