A Mothers Warning: The Ships We Built

5Mind. The Meme Platform

So, my husband takes our two kids to the public library the other day while I was at a work event.

When I get home I ask my 8 year old son what books he got. We are looking through them, a Harry Potter book and one from another author he likes and then a random one called “the ships we built” it had a cute drawing of a paper boat in the ocean.

So I ask him what it’s about He’s like “I don’t know it was on the end of the isle and it looked good, you know I love boats!” So sweet and innocent, he didn’t even read what it was about.

🤦🏻‍♀️

Well, unfortunately neither did my husband. I proceed to read the summary and I look at my husband like WTF “you definitely need to vet every book these days”

😳

“Sorry buddy, this book isn’t appropriate for you.” I have to tell my son.

That night I skimmed through the book… between the summary and what I read I gathered that this was a girl who was confused about being a boy and that her father was doing inappropriate things to her in the middle of the night. It was her diary entries where she also changes her name multiple times and her appearance.

😣

Needless to say I was pissed but not surprised that this is a children’s book being displayed on an end cap with a cute picture on it in the kids section.

There is an agenda that wants to take away our children’s innocence. We have to fight it. I will never shut up or back down and neither should you! They are our future and it is our duty to protect them!
