The National Football League (NFL) continues to show utter disrespect for the fans who buy tickets at exorbitant prices and watch their games on a variety of platforms. It is the fans who spend their hard-earned dollars that allows NFL executives and players to earn outrageous salaries. Yet, how many insults can these fans endure before it becomes too much?
According to a study by Remington Research Group, 64% of Americans believe that professional football players should not use the NFL “as a stage for their political views.” Nevertheless, in 2016, the NFL championed the right of Colin Kaepernick and other players to kneel as the National Anthem was performed before games.
In the aftermath of the death of George Floyd in 2020, the NFL sanctioned “social justice” endzone messages such as “Inspire Change,” “Stop Hate,” and “End Racism.” These messages have continued for six NFL seasons with no end in sight.
Even though the United States has one National Anthem, the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” also known as the “Black National Anthem,” has been incorporated into the NFL’s pre-game activities and the Super Bowl ever since 2020.
In 2020, the NFL also announced it would spend $250 million on “social justice initiatives” over the following decade.
From these actions the NFL undoubtedly supports a hard left political platform. Does the NFL’s progressive political agenda have the support of its fans? The answer is a resounding no. In fact, according to a recent HarrisX poll, only 27% of NFL fans want the league to take political positions.
Despite the viewpoint of its fans, the NFL embraced a very progressive entertainer in August of 2019. It hired left-wing rapper Jay-Z’s company Roc Nation to “advise the NFL on the selection of the Super Bowl musical acts.” The agreement also called for the “company” to “be involved in the production and promotion of new music by the league.”
Since his initial selection, in a five-year deal worth $25 million, Jay-Z has been pretty limited in his choices for Super Bowl halftime entertainment. There have been no conservative performers, country and western acts or even traditional rock and roll stars.
Instead, Jay-Z has chosen rappers such as Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ludacris, and Eminem, as well as pop stars Usher, Rihanna, Shakira, and Jennifer Lopez, among others.
The halftime shows have been a mixed bag, with some stars offering more talent and broader appeal than others. However, last year’s choice, Kendrick Lamar, was decidedly controversial, whose attraction was limited to mostly younger rap fans.
However, Jay-Z and the NFL outdid themselves with the selection of Puerto Rican rapper Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, known as Bad Bunny, to headline the February 8, 2026, Super Bowl halftime show at Levi’s stadium in Santa Clara, CA.
Bad Bunny is another far-left entertainer who hates President Donald Trump and supported Kamala Harris. He sings in Spanish, advocates for the transgender community and wears dresses, jewelry, and makeup. No wonder conservative commentator Jack Posobiec proposed an alternative halftime show, sponsored by Turning Point USA, and featuring the Christian rock band Creed.
The gender fluid entertainer decided to boycott the United States on his latest tour because he was worried that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents “could be outside (my concert venue).” He said this threat was something that he was “talking about” with his team and was “very concerned about” his fans being arrested.
Nevertheless, after Jay-Z made the Super Bowl halftime performance offer, Bad Bunny decided to make an exception, posting online “I think I’ll do just one show in the United States.”
When asked about Bad Bunny’s show, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said it will receive her keen attention. She said, “The Department of Homeland Security is responsible for keeping it safe, so I have the responsibility for making sure everybody goes to the Super Bowl, has the opportunity to enjoy it and to leave, and that’s what America is about.”
She continued, “We’re going to enforce the law, so I think people should not be coming to the Super Bowl unless there are law-abiding Americans who love this country.”
While Secretary Noem will be paying attention to the Super Bowl, will Americans watch a halftime show featuring a Trump hating performer singing in Spanish? One celebrity who will not be watching is former race-car driver Danica Patrick. She posted, “No songs in English should not be allowed at one of America’s highest rated television events of the year… not just for sports.”
Choosing Bad Bunny was a direct slap in the face to Americans who support President Trump and the Make America Great Again (MAGA) agenda. It was a statement that the NFL does not care that football fans want the league to be non-political. Instead, the league is partnering with a performer who is anti-Trump, anti-ICE, pro-transgender and only sings in Spanish.
Those who speak English or support the MAGA agenda should find alternative entertainment for the Super Bowl. Even better, it is time for those offended by this choice, and other outrageous decisions by the NFL, to consider a serious boycott of the league.
Instead of MAGA supporters spending their limited time and money on the NFL, which clearly hates their values, it would be much better to do something more productive, like enjoying family visits, attending religious services, volunteering, learning a new skill or exercising.
The NFL has taken their fans for granted for too long and will continue to abuse them if there is no penalty for their actions. In the meantime, Bad Bunny is crowing about his selection for the Super Bowl. He was the guest host for the kickoff of the new season of “Saturday Night Live.” After speaking in Spanish, he told viewers “If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have four months to learn!”
Instead, Americans have four months to learn a new habit, stop watching the NFL.
