The Chinese Progressive Association of San Francisco was founded in 1972, at the height of the cultural revolution, to advocate for the Peoples Republic of China. It was establish by I Wor Kuen, a radical Marxist group started in 1969 whose goal was to prepare the residents of New York Cityโ€™s Chinatown for โ€œrevolution.โ€

On its website, the Chinese Progressive Association says that it educates, organizes and empowers the low income and working class immigrant Chinese community in San Francisco to build collective power with other oppressed communities to demand better living and working conditions and justice for all people.
