Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has endorsed former President Donald Trump for president in 2024.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has endorsed former President Donald Trump for president, saying that the former president has clearly won the support of Republican voters.

โ€œIt is abundantly clear that former President Trump has earned the requisite support of Republican voters to be our nominee for President of the United States,โ€ Mr. McConnell said in a statement to media outlets. โ€œIt should come as no surprise that as nominee, he will have my support.

Mr. McConnellโ€™s announcement comes a day after Super Tuesdayโ€”the day consisting of the greatest number of primaries in the presidential election cycleโ€”in which President Trump swept all but one of the races.

In his statement, the Kentucky Republican highlighted several key accomplishments of President Trumpโ€™s first term in officeโ€”and said he looks forward to working with him in the future.

โ€œDuring his presidency, we worked together to accomplish great things for the American people including tax reform that supercharged our economy and a generational change of our federal judiciaryโ€”most importantly, the Supreme Court,โ€ Mr. McConnell said.

โ€œI look forward to the opportunity of switching from playing defense against the terrible policies the Biden administration has pursued to a sustained offense geared towards making a real difference in improving the lives of the American people,โ€ he added.

The endorsement comes after millions of voter across 16 states and one U.S. territory cast their votes Tuesday for their preferred presidential candidates on what is the biggest primary day of the year.

โ€œThey call it Super Tuesday for a reason; this is a big one,โ€ President Trump said in his victory speech on March 5.

โ€œThereโ€™s never been anything so conclusive,โ€ he continued, adding, โ€˜Itโ€™s been an amazing night.โ€
