The suspected shooter โis deceased by a self-inflicted gunshot wound,โ Noem said. โWhile we donโt know motive yet, we know that our ICE law enforcement is facing unprecedented violence against them. It must stop. Please pray for the victims and their families.โ
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons told CNN that โpreliminary information is a possible sniper,โ adding: โWe have three individuals that are down at this time. Weโre not sure on their condition. Theyโve been taken to the hospital.โ
Federal and local officials did not reveal the identities of the shooting suspect or the victims.
Local Dallas media reported that the shooting occurred at a Dallas field office located at 8101 North Stemmons Freeway. Traffic camera footage from the Texas Department of Transportation, seen by The Epoch Times, showed a significant law enforcement presence near the ICE building.
Vice President JD Vance said in a post on X that the โobsessive attack on law enforcement, particularly ICE, must stop,โ responding to Noemโs statement Wednesday.
โIโm praying for everyone hurt in this attack and for their families,โ he added.
DHS and ICE officials have said that ICE agents have faced a large increase in assaults this year.
โOur ICE officers are facing a more than 1000 percent increase in assaults against them, including vehicles being used as weapons towards them, and doxing campaigns targeting federal officers and their families,โ DHS said in a statement earlier this week, responding to a measure signed by California Gov. Gavin Newsom that would require federal agents to not wear masks.
โWhen our heroic law enforcement officers conduct operations, they clearly identify themselves as law enforcement while wearing masks to protect themselves from being targeted by highly sophisticated gangs like Tren de Aragua and MS-13, criminal rings, murderers, and rapists.
โOur officers also wear vests marked with ICE/ERO or Homeland Security and are flanked by vehicles marked with the name of the department.โ
The shooting on Wednesday is the third time that ICE or Customs and Border Protection officials have been targeted in Texas in 2025.
