Presidential Greatness Project’s Bogus Trump Poll

A new survey was picked up by the mainstream media recently because it played well to their incessant Trump bashing narrative. It showed President Donald Trump as the worst US president of all time. The humorous thing about this poll is it was sent to “525 scholars representing a wide range of academic disciplines” between Nov. 15 – Dec. 31, 2023.

Anybody who has been in graduate school and taken coursework in conducting research surveys knew this survey was bogus right away. The sample group was obviously biased as academia is so blatantly biased against conservatives. In simple terms, the sample group chosen for the survey was tainted from the beginning to produce a desired outcome.

Another thing that is highly suspicious is the two researchers of this titled survey “Official Results of the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey”, Brandon Rottinghaus of the University of Houston and Justin S. Vaughn of the Coastal Carolina University. When you do research on them you do not seem to find much personal information such as their political affiliations which could expose bias.

Also, the year in the title “Official Results of the 2024 Presidential Greatness Project Expert Survey” leads many to believe this is a survey done annually. However, we could not find results from any previous years.

The two researchers admit that their sample group came from current and recent members of the Presidents & Executive Politics (PEP) Section of the American Political Science Association (APSA).

The mission statement of this organization offers:

Mission Statement

“The Presidents and Executive Politics (PEP) Organized Section of APSA is the premier association of scholars devoted to the study of the American presidency and executive politics more broadly.  Our broad mandate encompasses research on national, subnational, and cross-national executive politics.  The section welcomes diverse theoretical perspectives, analytical techniques, and data sources as they contribute to the advancement of scholarship and instruction.  We also invite contributions and perspectives from other disciplines.  PEP values the establishment of enduring non-partisan links between scholarship, the real world of presidential and executive politics, and public policy.”

The Internet seems absent of political leanings and bias of not just the two professors of this poll but also this organization itself. But we did find this interesting article:

Why I’m Leaving the Political Science Association– National Association of Scholars

In this article by Bruce Gilley in 2017 he wrote:

“So why the lack of balance? Despite the lip-service to the importance of viewpoint diversity, asking an APSA organizer committed to the advance of left-wing viewpoints to take one for the right is like asking a glutton to forego ice cream. There are no practical means to translate theory into practice. The eyes roll tiredly over proposals concerning viewpoint diversity but perk up excitedly at the sight of one, to cite another of the offerings at this year’s conference, ‘Disavowing Violence: Imperial Entitlements, From (Edmond) Burke to (Donald) Trump (Fuck That Guy).’”

At that time Professor Gilley was president of the Oregon affiliate of the National Association of Scholars. So the very interesting aspect of what Gilley was trying to express was the extreme bias towards the left by the PEP division of APSA as expressed by one quote of an attendee at their annual fall 2017 conference after Trump was elected:

“I don’t think I’ve hardly ever met a Trump voter,” Shep Melnick of Boston College admitted in a panel presentation. “Most of us in academia have not.”

America’s Political Scientists Come in for a Reckoning: At an annual conference in San Francisco, academics debated how Trump won—and how they missed him.” – Politico

Melnick’s quote exposes the liberal ivory tower bubble of academia these days which makes this entire survey poll biased and therefor bogus.

CONCLUSION:

I turn 70 years old this year and I consider myself pretty politically astute. I used to be an independent voter but now identify as a Republican. Since I taught in 6 colleges in 40 years, wrote 8 books, and won 7 teaching awards, I can claim the title of “scholar” too. My former students on the “Rate My Professor” website scored me a 4.8 on a 5 point scale.

In my lifetime I believe the best 3 presidents in my lifetime were Ronald Reagan (R), Donald Trump (R), and John F. Kennedy (D). Interestingly, all three of these men identified as Democrats at some point in time. Both Reagan and Trump left the party when they saw it going astray from its original founders.

Without a doubt, the worst two presidents in my lifetime, and possibly all-time, were/are Jimmy Carter and Joe Biden.

This election I am encouraging people to vote for Donald Trump for President for 2 simple reasons.

A recent study revealed Trump is the only American President out of all 46 who has no trace back to America’s slave trade. That should gain him every black voter of America!

Donald Trump is the only living US president whose ancestors didn’t own slaves, report says – Business Insider

The other reason goes to the past words of Democrat pundit James Carville in 1992 who said, “It’s the economy, stupid!”

So for both Carville and the authors of this poll placing President Trump dead last, I will offer this chart that shows Democrats can be hung by their own words and actions which truly shows President Trump is first and your only intelligent choice for 2024.
