Federal officials are now on the scene amid a reported explosion, authorities said.
A “reported explosion” occurred at a Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department training facility on Friday that left at least three people dead, said U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi and California Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office.
“I just spoke to @USAttyEssayli about what appears to be a horrific incident that killed at least three at a law enforcement training facility in Los Angeles,” Bondi said in a post on X on Friday. Her comment was reposted by U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli, who did not offer a statement, a short while later.
Bondi added that “federal agents are at the scene and we are working to learn more” and called on people to “please pray for the families of the sheriff’s deputies killed.”
Bondi didn’t say what caused the incident, but video footage captured by local news station KTLA 5 TV and NBC Los Angeles shows a LASD vehicle with a shattered rear windshield. A tarp over what appears to be explosives trucks was also visibly damaged.
Around the same time Friday, Newsom’s office said that a “reported explosion” occurred at a County Sheriff’s Special Operations Bureau in East Los Angeles.
“The Governor’s Office of Emergency Services … is in contact with the Sheriff’s Department and closely monitoring the situation, and has offered full state assistance. Emergency officials will provide updates as more information becomes available,” the governor’s office said.
The Epoch Times has contacted the LASD’s media office for comment.
