GOP Lawmakers Demand Inquiry Into ‘Radical Left’ Networks Following Kirk’s Assassination
A group of House Republicans is pressing congressional leaders to create a select committee to investigate what they call “the radical left’s assault on America and the rule of law,” citing the assassination of Charlie Kirk as the latest evidence of mounting political violence.
In a Sept. 11 letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and the chairs of the Judiciary and Oversight committees, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas) and more than a dozen colleagues urged the formation of a panel to probe the “money, influence, and power” behind the alleged assault on American institutions.
They asked that the select committee be staffed with members and aides who have prosecutorial or law enforcement backgrounds “to deliver results” and armed with full subpoena powers to trace the funding networks of nongovernmental organizations (NGO), donors, media outlets, and public officials.

Discord Says Alleged Shooter’s Account Was Removed
A spokesperson from Discord addressed the use of the platform by those involved with the shooting, after Utah Gov. Spencer Cox noted the use of the app by the suspect’s roommate.
According to a spokesperson for Discord, an internal investigation found no evidence that the suspect promoted violence or planned the shooting on its platform.
“The messages referenced in recent reporting about planning details do not appear to be Discord messages. These were communications between the suspect’s roommate and a friend after the shooting, where the roommate was recounting the contents of a note the suspect had left elsewhere.”
The company said it removed the suspect’s account for “violating our off-platform behavior policy,” and that “we strongly condemn violence of any kind, including political violence.” The company also said it would continue to work closely with law enforcement.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy and extend our condolences to the Kirk family and everyone affected.”
Charlie Kirk Assassination Suspect’s Bullet Casings Had Messages: What We Know

Assassination Was ‘Attack on American Experiment’: Cox
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox described the assassination of Charlie Kirk as a threat to democracy and the American way of life, during a Sept. 12 press conference.
“It is an attack on all of us. It is an attack on the American experiment,” Cox said.
“It is an attack on our ideals.”
Cox added that a nation built on the notion of free speech is endangered by political violence that dampens the spirit of the country.
“This cuts to the very foundation of who we are, of who we have been, and who we could be in better times,” Cox said.
“Political violence is different than any other type of violence for lots of different reasons. One, because in the very act that Charlie championed of expression, that freedom of expression that is enshrined in our founding documents, in having his life taken in that very act, makes it more difficult for people to feel like they can share their ideas, that they can speak freely.”
The governor called for a commitment to open dialogue and peaceful interactions.
“We will never be able to solve all the other problems, including the violence problems that people are worried about, if we can’t have a clash of ideas safely and securely, especially those ideas with which you disagree,” Cox said.
“That’s why this matters so much.”

When asked whether Robinson acted alone, Cox said, “Yes, but the investigation is ongoing.”
Cox previously announced that Robinson had allegedly sent messages to a friend via social media platform Discord regarding the retrieval of a rifle that he allegedly used to shoot Kirk. That friend, who was not named by authorities, appears to be cooperating with investigators and is not a suspect.

Charlie Kirk Assassination Stirs Fears of Rising Political Violence
The Sept. 10 death of Charlie Kirk—the highest-profile American political figure to be assassinated in nearly six decades—represents a tipping point for the nation, legal scholars and others told The Epoch Times. The 31-year-old father of two was fatally shot in the neck as he spoke on a Utah college campus. As of Sept. 11, the gunman remained unidentified and on the loose; police detained two people but released both after questioning.
