Somehow, in the chaos of my home, with my eleven-month-old crawling at my feet and my toddler building a fortress out of toy cars and playdough in the next room, I found the courage to join my conservative brothers and sisters and utterly expose myself on social media, something I’d never done before. I was overcome with rage after absorbing a day’s worth of sanctimonious outrage from the radical left about the events in Minneapolis. I’d had enough and simply reshared a post that read, “Laken Riley was a nurse too. There were ZERO democrats protesting in the streets for her.”
I’d done it now! I’d given so many of my Instagram “friends” fuel to hate me forever. How dare I post something so outlandishly Republican? Did I not realize the radical left has the market cornered on all social media platforms? It is their place and theirs alone to post political commentary, no matter the cause or the event that perpetuated the post in the first place. Because to them, freedom of speech is selective.
I noticed that my number of followers declined relatively quickly. One of those former followers included a family member. Never mind that I’ve had to endure onslaughts of socialist memes and a digital warfare advocating for the genocide of the unborn for years. I shared something deeply conservative, so they put on the armor of their screens and equipped themselves with infantile rhetoric they’d unknowingly been indoctrinated with for God knows how long.
What I posted about Laken Riley was an objectively true statement. There was ZERO outrage from the left regarding her death. Yet, when a puppet molded by propaganda belonging to the radical left willingly inserts him or herself in a lawful situation violently, the Democrats flip the switch to “on” and selective outrage ensues. A battle on social media begins, yet again. Because there is a battle with those who are too far gone that has been fought on social media for years, and social media has built an army of deeply dependent thinkers.
A former coworker did in fact reach out in response to my post. For the sake of keeping her identity anonymous, all I can say is she’s a real she/her kind of soldier. Any attempt to engage with her was met with aggression, but I’m certain she didn’t see it that way. It was fruitless to argue. I eventually just ended it with “Take care!”
It occurred to me that she is a product of a particular kind of propaganda that has taken place on social media for years. The radical left’s social media takes the truth, bends it, tweaks it, molds it into something that pretends to be the truth, but it is not. And so many of its followers rely solely on social media as their only source of information, which makes this particular vessel of propaganda very successful. So many easily swayed minions, like my former coworker, follow political influencers that not only omit the truth, they retell the event entirely. It’s a kind of propaganda that is entirely rooted in fiction. And they eat it up. Not only do they eat it up, they lick the damn plate.
In an effort to explain how effective this social media-driven kind of propaganda is, let me just share a little bit of what this former coworker messaged me:
“Why is this a republican vs. democrat anything? It should be about the humanity. What happened to her [Laken Riley] was fucking terrible. What is happening unlawfully to people without due process is fucking terrible. What happened to Renee and Alex was fucking terrible. What we need is to rally together against the injustice of the murders and work on better immigration together and work to rally that what happened to those two murdered in Minnesota doesn’t happen.”
I almost felt overwhelmed at addressing just how manipulative her way of thinking is, overwhelmed at how futile an exchange with her would be, knowing this woman has been deluded into thinking that she’s advocating for something good in this world. Unfortunately, she’s nothing more than another soldier fighting on the wrong side of social media. And this was only a small portion of our exchange.
The truth is, people like her throw out words like “humanity” because they know it’s an all-encompassing term that covers all their bases should a Republican challenge them about anything. All they need to do is shout “HUMANITY” and that justifies the violence that’s ensued as a result of two individuals who threatened law enforcement in Minneapolis and lost their lives as a result. They can’t acknowledge it for what it is: an unnecessary tragedy.
“Why is this a republican vs. democrat anything?” Because it is exactly that, and the truth is right in front of her. But she’s been trained to ignore the truth and shout “HUMANITY” instead. Yet, this sense of humanity she’s adopted from the left’s propaganda via social media does not lend itself to people like Laken Riley or Charlie Kirk. It’s selective humanity.
She’s not wrong in that we certainly should “rally together”. But she doesn’t understand that, thanks to social media, she’s been groomed to think that “rallying together” actually means sacrificing your convictions to accomplish the radical left’s agenda. Had she ventured out a little further, even on social media, she would easily discover the truth. But she’s been desensitized to humanity, and she has no idea. You see, she thinks she has convinced me that she’s advocating for everyone, but she forgets that I’ve seen her social media account. Not once did she ever post anything about Charlie Kirk. Not once did she ever post anything about Laken Riley’s death, despite the fact that it was “fucking terrible.” All she can do is privately challenge me to a post I shared, briefly equate the murder of Laken Riley to the “two murdered in Minnesota”, and justify her argument for the sake of “humanity”. I truly can’t find the right word to accurately describe the irony. It’s that ironic.
This former coworker was a teacher in the public school system. The radical left’s existence on social media is just a piece of the puzzle. It also has a dangerous presence in the classroom, and social media has built an army of teachers just like my former coworker. I know this because I taught in the public school system for eleven years. We worked together. This kind of radical left propaganda on social media lends itself very easily to the public school system, and that should terrify people.
