April 8 of 2024 is a very special date as it would be my mother’s 98th birthday, were she still alive. But to many other people in America this date will be special this year because of a third total solar eclipse in a short period of time. I am submitting this now in the event people want to make related vacation plans.
On this date this year there will be a third solar eclipse where the moon will pass between the earth and the sun to create a temporary nighttime in the middle of the day. For some, this is a third concluding event in a 3-part series related to faith “Three American Solar Eclipse Omens from 2017, 2023, and 2024”.
For people of science this is just another exciting time to do some experiments and educate ourselves and our youth. For people of faith it is a time of reflection of a supreme creator and related events of this world. For some of us, we will be fascinated by this event for reasons of both faith and science.
In college I had a deep interest in earthquakes. Part of my interest could be explained as my major was architectural design. There is a way to design dwellings somewhat earthquake proof. The famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s Imperial Hotel in Tokyo proved this by withstanding the great earthquake of 1923 when all other buildings around it were gone!
After the 2010 earthquake of Haiti I wanted to see the Clinton Foundation build new homes out of something akin to steel shipping containers with flexible hookups for utilities, water, and sewer as a worthwhile humanitarian/architectural experiment. When an earthquake happens, it is important to not be too fastened to the ground. Of course that dream never happened as nobody is sure what the Clinton Foundation ever did to rebuild Haiti with that related money donations.
Taking science coursework in geology and geography in college I learned there is a correlation between the gravitational pull of the moon on the earth stressing the tectonic plates of our many fault lines around the globe. The obvious concern related to this coming cosmic event is that “the path of totality” (path where it becomes as dark as night) of this eclipse coincides with the New Madrid Seismic Zone (NMSZ).
Historically this fault is famous as back in December 16, 1811, just 3 months after a solar eclipse occurred, one of the worst earthquakes in terms of loss of life and property damage occurred. This quake would be rated as 7.2 to 8.2 on the Richter Scale today. That scale wasn’t developed until 1935. Two other smaller related quakes occurred in the spring of 1812. The New Madrid Quake was the scene of such a violent earthquake it actually changed the course of the Mississippi River! About 1,000 people died some of whom were on the Mississippi River in boats conducting commerce.

There are some heated arguments in the world of science as to whether the moon plays any roll at all in earthquakes, not to mention solar eclipse related earthquakes.
“Lunar eclipse yesterday, earthquake today: Could there be a connection?”
Interestingly, when you point out to these people who think there is no correlation between the moon and earthquakes that both child births and crime rates increase during full-moon episodes without explanation, they grow oddly quiet.
Destin Wilson Sandlin is an American engineer and science communicator who produces the video series “Smarter Every Day” on his YouTube channel which was launched in 2007. In this video of his book author Dr. Gordon Telepun is featured with some really cool experiments that can be done by those in the path of totality. His book is titled “Eclipse Day – 2024 and More! CONCLUSION
I have too much respect for scientists and theologians to speculate on what might happen on April 8 of 2024. But the one last thing I will add to this related to science and faith is this:
The true birthday of Jesus Christ is thought to be somewhere between April 6 to April 10!
And how do we think we know this?
Astronomical and historical evidence suggested the “Star of Bethlehem” was a comet which was visible in 5 BCV as described in ancient Chinese records. This is actually written about in scholarly articles such as this one of NASA.
