Trump to Address UN General Assembly: Hereโ€™s What to Know

This year marks the 80th anniversary of the United Nations, with the gathering focused on โ€œpeace, development, and human rights.โ€

Trump is expected to emphasize how โ€œglobalist institutionsโ€ such as the U.N. have weakened the global order and critique its effectiveness in resolving international conflicts.

Ahead of UNGA, U.S. allies, including the UK, France, Australia, and Canada, announced they would recognize a Palestinian state. Trump is expected to criticize the move, saying it rewards Hamas.

Trump is expected to reiterate his calls to end Russian oil purchases as a means to sanction the Kremlin and end the war in Ukraine.

After his speech, Trump is expected to hold bilateral meetings with U.N. Secretary-General Antรณnio Guterres, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Argentine President Javier Milei, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

In the evening, he is scheduled to attend a reception with more than 100 world leaders before returning to Washington.

Trump Says Ukraine Can Win Back All Territory Lost to Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sept. 23 that Ukraine should go on the offensive against Russia and reclaim all occupied territories.

โ€œAfter getting to know and fully understand the Ukraine/Russia Military and Economic situation and, after seeing the Economic trouble it is causing Russia, I think Ukraine, with the support of the European Union, is in a position to fight and WIN all of Ukraine back in its original form,โ€ Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social.

The president said that, with backing from Europe and NATO and enough time and patience, it is โ€œvery much an optionโ€ for Ukraine to drive Russian forces out and restore its borders.

โ€œWhy not? Russia has been fighting aimlessly for three and a half years a War that should have taken a Real Military Power less than a week to win,โ€ Trump wrote. โ€œThis is not distinguishing Russia. In fact, it is very much making them look like โ€˜a paper tiger.โ€™โ€

Trump said Russiaโ€™s faltering economy, shortages at home, and growing public discontent could tip the balance further in Ukraineโ€™s favor. He described Ukraine as having โ€œGreat Spiritโ€ and growing stronger as the war drags on, while warning that Russian President Vladimir Putin faces โ€œBIG Economic trouble.โ€

โ€œThis is the time for Ukraine to act,โ€ Trump wrote, adding that he wishes both countries well, and that the United States would continue to supply weapons to NATO โ€œfor NATO to do what they want with them.โ€

This is a breaking story and will be updated.

Trump Denounces Globalism as a System That Makes Successful Nations Inflict Pain on Themselves

In the second half of his U.N. speech, President Donald Trump focused new criticism on globalism, which he described as a concept that compels successful developed nations to hurt themselves.

Trump said the โ€œglobalist migration agendaโ€ has resulted in the mass trafficking of children across international borders.

Globalism has placed a larger burden on developed nations to reduce their impact on the environment, he said, while other nations continue to pollute heavily.

Trump noted data showing that the United States, where air conditioning systems are relatively common, records around 1,300 heat-related deaths annually. By contrast, he noted there are around 175,000 heat-related deaths annually across Europe, where air conditioning systems are uncommon.

โ€œThe entire globalist concept of asking successful industrialized nations to inflict pain on themselves and radically disrupt their entire societies must be rejected completely and totally, and it must be immediate,โ€ Trump said.

Trump Calls Out System Involved in Mass Child Trafficking

President Donald Trump underscored the United Statesโ€™ efforts to control illegal immigration, referencing nearly 30,000 children who have been sent back to their families.

โ€œWe’ve been sending them back to their parents,โ€ Trump said of minors who crossed the border illegally. He said that in many cases, the children were not with a family member, and their parents were elated to have their child returned to them.

โ€œAny system that results in the mass trafficking of children is inherently evil, yet that is exactly what the globalist migration agenda has done.โ€

The president went on to say that the current system is unsustainable.

Trump Recalls His Construction Bid for UN

During his Tuesday address to the United Nations, President Donald Trump recalled โ€œmany years agoโ€ when a โ€œvery successful real estate developer โ€ฆ known as Donald J Trumpโ€ bid on the renovation of the United Nations complex.

Trump said that he put in a bid of $500 million to rebuild the entire area, saying it would have been โ€œbeautiful.โ€

โ€œBut they decided to go in another direction, which was much more expensive at the time, which actually produced a far inferior product,โ€ the president said, citing concerns with the materials used and the building concepts.

โ€œThey had massive cost overruns and spent between $2 [billion] and $4 billion on the building, and did not even get the marble floors that I promised them.โ€

In UN Speech, Trump Touts Peace Deals Without International Bodyโ€™s Help

President Donald Trump, in his speech before the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday, claimed credit for ending seven wars, and with little to no help from the international body.

โ€œI ended seven wars, dealt with the leaders of each and every one of these countries, and never even received a phone call from the United Nations offering to help in finalizing the deal,โ€ Trump said. โ€œAll I got from the United Nations was an escalator that, on the way up, stopped right in the middle.โ€

In all, Trump said his administration was critical in brokering deals to end armed conflicts between Cambodia and Thailand; Kosovo and Serbia; Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo; Pakistan and India; Israel and Iran; Egypt and Ethiopia; and Armenia and Azerbaijan.

โ€œThe U.N. has such tremendous potential. I’ve always said it. It has such tremendous, tremendous potential, but it’s not even coming close to living up to that potential for the most part,โ€ Trump said.

โ€œAt least for now, all they seem to do is write a really strongly worded letter and then never follow that letter up. It’s empty words, and empty words don’t solve war.โ€

Trump Touts Domestic Achievements

โ€œThis is indeed the golden age of America, we are rapidly reversing the economic calamity we inherited from the previous administration,โ€ Trump said.

The president cited a decrease in costs, including gasoline, groceries, mortgage rates, and inflation.

โ€œThe only thing that’s up is the stock market, which just hit a record high,โ€ he said.

Trump also said that manufacturing is โ€œboomingโ€ and wages are โ€œrising at the fastest pace in more than 60 years.โ€

Trump Jokes About Teleprompter, Escalator Not Working

President Donald Trump greeted foreign leaders and dignitaries at the United Nations with jokes about the teleprompter and escalator not functioning properly at the organization’s New York City building.

โ€œI don’t mind making the speech without a teleprompter,โ€ Trump said.

โ€œI can only say whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble.โ€

He later laughingly thanked the U.N. for a broken escalator, which he joked could have injured the first lady.

โ€œThese are the two things I got from the United Nations: a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter,โ€ Trump said.

The teleprompter then began functioning properly.
