What Was Zelenskyy Thinking?

Contact Your Elected Officials

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine could not have embarrassed himself any more than he did in his Oval Office meeting with President Donald Trump. A deal was set to be signed, a joint press conference was to be held, and a lunch to take place, but all of that went by the wayside when Zelenskyy tried to re-negotiate the deal that has already been given the stamp of approval by his own government. The event ended with Zelenskyy bounced from the White House.

President Trump wants American taxpayers to get a return on their investment in Ukraine in the form of access to the country’s rare earth minerals, a reasonable request. Zelenskyy is on board but wants a security guarantee from the United States attached to the deal, something President Trump is adamantly refusing. He says European nations are far more vulnerable to Russian aggression and therefore need to provide most of the heavy lifting, again, a reasonable request. As Trump has said, we have a big beautiful ocean in between the US and any potential European conflict.

Things went south from the get-go when Zelenskyy showed up in black long johns and failed to show any appreciation to the United States for the assistance he’s already received to date. Things went further south when he tried to lecture Trump and Vice-President JD Vance on diplomacy and the political ambitions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, as if this is Trump’s first rodeo. All in all, he was very disrespectful, even seen rolling his eyes at times. His demeanor was so embarrassing that his own ambassador hung her head in shame.

One wonders what in the world Zelenskyy thought he was going to accomplish with this strategy. There are those who say he was caught in a trap by the liberal media and their effort to make the Trump team look bad at all costs. Others say it may have been European leaders that pushed him into squaring off with Trump, which is never a good idea. One thing is certain, Zelenskyy, like other world leaders, was used to negotiating with a pathetically weak and extremely corrupt Biden, or some other Democrat pushover, or a warmongering NeoCon. In any event, the meeting did not go as he planned.

If Biden was still in office, it would have been business as usual. The meeting would have taken place behind closed doors, Zelenskyy would have went home with another check, the Biden crime family would have received another kickback and everybody would be happy. The war would have gone on with no end in sight, justifying Zelenskyy’s cancellation of elections and allowing Congress to put together another “aid” package for Ukraine. Thanks to the work of Elon Musk and the rest of his DOGE crew, we now know where most of this kind of aid money ended up after being laundered through some spending bill.

The reactions of New York Senator Chuck Schumer and other cartoons of the Democrat party were obtuse and predictably out of touch. Trump’s ability to project power to our allies and enemies on the world stage is one of the many reasons he won the election in a landslide and was given a mandate by the American people to course correct the weak foreign policy of the incompetent Joe Biden. Some Democrats said Trump should have held the meeting in private, but we know that would only give them the chance to lie about what went on and try to impeach him like they did last time.

The problem Zelenskyy ran into is Trump can’t be bought. He’s actually going to negotiate based on what is in the best interest of the United States and American taxpayers. In addition to that, President Trump has often talked about the killing on both sides and genuinely wants peace for the Ukrainian and Russian people. It’s seems like Zelenskyy wants to continue the war, Trump wants a ceasefire tied to an economic solution that benefits everybody. It’s so refreshing to have an administration willing to have the meeting in front of the cameras and the media, talk about transparency. Not only that, Trump is not doing what’s best for Putin or what’s best for Zelenskyy, or Ukraine, or Europe. He’s doing what’s best for me, what’s best for we the people. Thank you, President Donald Trump, for being a man of integrity and working hard to protect the interest of the American people. I’ve never been prouder to be an American.
