Who Owns Your Local Newspaper These Days?

Contact Your Elected Officials

The far left Democrats are always quick to call MAGA Republicans of the right Naziโ€™s with President Donald J. Trump himself called Hitler. The problem with this scenario is they are liars and the exact opposite is true.

โ€œWhoever controls the media controls the mind.โ€ โ€“ Jim Morrison (American songwriter and poet)

โ€œIf you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it.โ€ โ€“ Joseph Goebbels (German Nazi Chief Propagandist)

โ€œHe alone who owns the youth, gains the future.โ€ โ€“ Adolph Hitler (Nazi Germany leader)

All three of the above very famous quotes are from famous liberals. Two of the three are from actual Nazisโ€™ which literally was the socialist party of German 80 years ago!

For those who do not know, billionaire philanthropist George Soros is a Hungarian born Jew who once worked for the Nazisโ€™ as what some would term a turncoat. He once commented in a 1998 โ€œ60 Minutesโ€ interview how 1944 was the best year of his life as a Nazi collaborator against the Jews. He is now a big time funder of left-wing causes including newspapers and radio stations.

โ€œStudy reveals George Sorosโ€™ global media ties: An activist group has found that the billionaire has financial connections to at least 253 news outlets around the worldโ€

Years ago I was a writer for our local weekly newspaper, โ€œThe Ogle County Lifeโ€. I was paid a small fee per article. I wrote about public interest items as well as politics and was well received. I wrote from a position of leaning slightly right but always told the truth.

While most all of my work seems to be scrubbed from the Internet, I did find this complimentary letter to the editor from a reader that is still on the internet on an archive website:

โ€œThe Ogle County Life Letter to the Editor โ€œAgainst Gun Legislationโ€ – Page 8

So what changed between this newspaper and this writer? Apparently, the newspaperโ€™s ownership did.

In July of 2024 a press release was released offering this:

โ€œIllinois publications โ€“ Rochelle News-Leader, Ogle County Life, Mendota Reporter and Amboy News are all owned by News Media Corporation, and are now part of the management agreement with Carpenter Media Group.โ€

We have had other news conglomerates buy local newspapers as well. Gannet Company, as an example, bought up newspapers around here in more major markets such as Des Moines, Freeport, and Rockford. It is said they now own over 250 small city/town newspapers around the nation. Many people lost their jobs with these acquisitions and the quality of local news content seemingly went down along with subscribers. For example; When the Rockford Register Star was closed, the building they owned and operated out of in downtown Rockford was closed and all of its operations went to Milwaukee where the Milwaukee Journal is published which was also purchased by Gannet.

If you are starting to smell a rat, you are not wrong.

โ€œHidden agenda?: Wisconsin newspapers fail to disclose left-wing funding sources for hundreds of stories they publishโ€ โ€“ Badger Institute

This article from 2018 makes the link between George Soros dark money and the stories we read in our local โ€œnonprofitโ€ newspapers.

CONCLUSION:

A big word thrown around today by politicians is โ€œtransparencyโ€. Transparency is not a word that appies well when trying to track the chain of command between your local newspapers and radio stations than when you try to do a deep dive into their ownership and/or funding sources. Matter of fact, many times you will get the name of a CEO or editor-in-chief and their political party or liberal/conservative leaning is completely scrubbed from the Internet! That is your first sign something is amiss.

There was an interesting article written in the left leaning Atlantic awhile back that discussed the problem of engineered news bias by millionaires and billionaires with an agenda.

โ€œBy now, we know what happens when a community loses its newspaper. People tend to participate less often in municipal elections, and those elections are less competitive. Corruption goes unchecked, and costs sometimes go up for town governments. Disinformation becomes the norm, as people start to get their facts mainly from social media.โ€ Elaine Godfrey Writing in The Atlantic

โ€œWhat We Lost When Gannett Came to Town: We donโ€™t often talk about how a paperโ€™s collapse makes people feel: less connected, more alone.โ€

I would argue with Ms. Godfrey that the information coming from alternative right-wing news sources, such as โ€œThe Thinking Conservativeโ€, are consistently closer to the truth than any left-wing news sources. Matter of fact, here is a thought, rather than rate news sources for political bias why not rate them for telling the truth?!?!

The best way to remedy what has gone wrong with our local newspapers is from the top down and President Donald J. Trump could very well make that happen as illustrated here with his very outstanding new show โ€œMy View with Lara Trumpโ€ on Fox:

โ€œLara Trump: It’s time to take back our nation’s narrativeโ€ โ€“ Fox News

The fact of the matter is many of these failing local newspapers were purchased by rich lefty liberals to make them tools to spread their propaganda. The time is now to pressure these local โ€œnews sourcesโ€ to either eliminate their bias or be put out of business by loss of non-profit status from the IRS. The GOP needs to wake up and address this issue as a national conspiracy of the left now exposed to the light of day.
