WASHINGTON —  U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) today announced passage of his legislation to save women’s sports, H.R. 734 The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act by a vote of 219-203 in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill now awaits a vote in the U.S. Senate, where U.S. Senator Tuberville (R-Ala.) introduced the companion legislation with 26 cosponsors.

“The Left’s fervent support of the radical trans agenda has come at the expense of women’s rights across the country. Parents do not want biological men in locker rooms with their daughters, nor do they believe its equitable that a male can compete with women in female athletics. That is the whole purpose behind the creation of Title IX. Yet the Left wants to destroy Title IX by allowing biological men to erase women’s sports,” said Rep. Greg Steube. “Voters across the nation gave the U.S. House to the GOP to deliver on our promises. Saving women’s sports has long been a priority issue for our conference and I’m thankful for the support of Speaker McCarthy and the House Leadership team to get it across the finish line today. Whether it’s on the field, court, track, or in the pool: House Republicans have shown we stand on the side of fairness for female athletes.”

The legislation allows women and girls a fair playing field in sports by ensuring that school athletics comply with the Title IX recognition of a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth. This bill ensures that biological females compete against other biological females in women’s sports that are operated, sponsored, or facilitated by a recipient of federal funding.

The House Republican Majority promised in the Commitment to America that it would defend fairness by ensuring that only women can compete in women’s sports.

The legislation is supported by: Advancing American Freedom, Alliance Defending Freedom, American Principles Project, Center for Human Dignity at Family Research Council, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, CPAC, Eagle Forum, Ethics and Public Policy Center, Family Policy Alliance, Heritage Action, ICONS Independent Council on Women’s Sport, Independent Women’s Law Center, Women’s Declaration International USA, Women’s Liberation Front, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and 12x NCAA All American Swimmer, Riley Gaines.
