Trump Suggests DOGE Look at Subsidies for Musk’s Companies

The president’s comments came after the SpaceX CEO renewed his criticism of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act on Monday.

President Donald Trump on Tuesday suggested that the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) examine the subsidies given to Elon Musk’s companies after Musk vowed to primary any lawmaker who supports the president’s sweeping budget reconciliation bill.

Trump said Musk’s companies rely heavily on government subsidies, claimed the SpaceX CEO may have received “more subsidy than any human being in history,” and suggested that cutting those subsidies could save money.

“No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED,” he stated in a Truth Social post.

Responding to a screenshot of Trump’s post on the social media platform X, Musk replied: “I am literally saying CUT IT ALL. Now,” without elaborating further.

Musk previously helped DOGE with efforts to eliminate fraud and waste within the federal government.

In late May, Musk announced he was leaving the federal government, citing the end of his 130-day mandate as a special government employee under the Trump administration.

The billionaire reiterated his criticism of Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act on Monday as the Senate moves toward passing their version of the bill. House Republican leaders have suggested the bill could be put to a vote as early as July 2 if it passes the Senate.

“Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth,” he wrote.

Musk has specifically objected to the bill for failing to adequately reduce spending, and due to Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projections that the bill will add to the deficit.

“It is obvious with the insane spending of this bill, which increases the debt ceiling by a record FIVE TRILLION DOLLARS that we live in a one-party country – the PORKY PIG PARTY!!” he wrote in a separate post.

Musk also said that a new political party would be formed if the bill passes.

“If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,” Must wrote in another X post. “Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.”

Updated CBO estimates released on June 27 projected that the budget reconciliation bill would increase the deficit by around $3.25 trillion.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Trump’s allies have said that the CBO is relying on a low growth rate to reach that conclusion.
