It’s common’s knowledge that the United States Postal Service is running out of money. The Postmaster General, David Steiner, has recently warned that without congressional action to lift the $15 billion statutory borrowing limit, the agency may struggle to pay employees or vendors in 2027. What is not common knowledge are all the ways our postal system is in trouble and the fact that not much is being done to stop it.
While visiting our local post office I witnessed a customer who had ordered from Amazon and the packaged arrived with postage due as the mailing label was fraudulent or counterfeit. It was a shipment from an Amazon vendor outside of the U.S. (Asia). I watched as the postmaster collected the amount of postage due and kindly asked the customer to report the vendor to Amazon to have that vendor barred from future transactions.
After the woman left, I asked the postmaster if this was a common problem. She smiled and said, “Happens all the time. That is one of the reasons why we are in trouble financially and stamps are going up again soon.” She explained about the amount of fraud that takes place with mailed packages. Worse than what I saw were people who refuse delivery of packages they ordered or packages sent without the person ordering anything. If the package was shipped with a fraudulent mailing label the post office takes it on the chin twice (coming and going) in that scenario.
Not all of the fraud is external to the USPS. Lino Miranda, a 20-year USPS letter carrier and NALC shop steward at Flagler Station in Miami, recently did a documentary, FRAUD AT FLAGLER. It is an investigative documentary documenting systemic mail delay, falsified delivery records, and management retaliation at Flagler Station Post Office in Miami, Florida. (Watch Above)
Another issue facing the USPS is something that President Donald Trump highlighted in his first administration. In 2018 President Trump frequently attacked Amazon accusing it of causing the United States Postal Service (USPS) to lose “billions of dollars” through a “postal rip-off” or “scam”.
President Trump claimed that the USPS was losing money by charging Amazon too little for package delivery, acting as a “delivery boy” for the company. He stated in a tweet that the USPS loses an average of $1.50 per package delivered for Amazon, asserting that if rates were increased, Amazon’s shipping costs would rise by $2.6 billion. Amazon receives a negotiated lower postal rate because of its massive volume, high-density, and consistent “last-mile” delivery to customers.
Liberals played off Trump’s criticism as an attack on a fellow billionaire, Jeff Bezos. Bezos owns the Washington Post which is often critical of Trump. However, President Trump understands business and economics better than most Americans, especially our political leaders.
While I do not know where Trump came up with his figure of $2.6 billion, an experience at my house proves he is most probably right once again.
This past weekend I had a key FOB (Frequency Operation Button) button battery go bad in my vehicle. Oddly, none of the stores had replacement batteries in stock in the rural town where I live. My wife ordered me batteries on Amazon. The good news is they arrived in 24 hours. The bad news is this is how they came to our home.

This level of stupidity hurts both the USPS as well as Amazon! I hope President Trump and Amazon owner Jeff Bezos read this story and take corrective action. Liberals are supposed to be all about saving the planet and conserving resources. This shipment clearly did neither!
CONCLUSION:
Another hot button issue President Trump has expressed related to USPS is mail-in voting. His concern and objection to it is well founded. All the proof you need that the USPS helped the Democrats steal the 2020 Election is the fact that they were seemingly rewarded by their exemption from Joe Biden’s COVID vaccine mandate in 2021. Besides being suspiciously illogical, it was discrimination, pure and simple. Why was this one group of government employees exempt along with members of Congress and nobody else? Why did our mainstream media never question Biden about this?

The U.S. Postal Service has filed a notice to increase the First-Class Mail Forever stamp price from 78 cents to 82 cents on July 12, 2026. This 4.8% increase is part of a plan to adjust mailing service prices to combat rising costs of the postal service.
All the failures at USPS can’t be blamed on it’s employees as they are working in a system designed to fail. President Donald Trump has suggested the privatization of America’s mail delivery system. This might be another one of his great ideas!
