Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) invited President Joe Biden for a debate after the president insisted congressional Republicans were wanting to cut Social Security and Medicare.
โSince you canโt stop talking about me and lying to Floridians about Social Security and Medicare, Iโm sure youโll accept my invitation to debate the issue,โ the senator wrote Thursday on Twitter. โIโll be back in Florida tonight. You pick the time and place.โ
Welcome to Florida, @Joebiden.

The comment came amid a dispute over the characterization of Republican lawmakersโ economic proposal. On Tuesday night, Biden accused some GOPs of threatening to cut social security and Medicare in debt-limit negotiations.
โSome of my Republican friends want to take the economy hostage unless I agree to their economic plans. All of you at home should know what their plans are,โ Biden said during his second State of the Union address.
โInstead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security to sunset.โ
The presidentโs claim met with jeers from the Republicans, with many sitting in the House chamber shouting backing โno.โ Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) shouted, โwe never said that!โ while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) stood up and yelled โliar!โ
โTwisting My Wordsโ
Scott issued a statement Wednesday defending his legislative agenda and arguing Biden misrepresented it.
โIn my plan, I suggested the following: All federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again,โ read the statement. โThis is clearly and obviously an idea aimed at dealing with ALL the crazy new laws our Congress has been passing of late.โ
Scott, who later said he never wanted Medicare or Social Security to be cut, accused Biden of โtwistingโ his words.
โI will not be intimidated by Joe Biden twisting my words, or Chuck Schumer twisting my wordsโor by anyone else for that matter,โ he said.

Sen. Rick Scott: Lyinโ Biden Canโt Hide From His Own Attacks on Social Security and Medicare
WASHINGTON, D.C. โ Today, Senator Rick Scott released the below statement following President Joe Bidenโs State of the Union speech last night.
Senator Rick Scott said, โLast night, Joe Biden rambled for a while, but it seems he forgot to share the facts: In my plan, I suggested the following: All federal legislation sunsets in five years. If a law is worth keeping, Congress can pass it again. This is clearly and obviously an idea aimed at dealing with ALL the crazy new laws our Congress has been passing of late. Joe Biden is confusedโฆ to suggest that this means I want to cut Social Security or Medicare is a lie, and is a dishonest moveโฆ from a very confused President. Does he think I also intend to get rid of the U.S. Navy? Or the border patrol? Or air traffic control, maybe? This is the kind of fake, gotcha BS that people hate about Washington. Iโve never advocated cutting Social Security or Medicare and never would. I will not be intimidated by Joe Biden twisting my words, or Chuck Schumer twisting my words โ or by anyone else for that matter. HOWEVER, Biden and Democrats did, in fact, cut Medicare just last year. They lie about it and the liberal media covers for them. If they think they can shut me up or intimidate me by lyingโฆ I’m here for itโฆ Iโm ready to go. I will not be silenced by the Washington establishment.โ
