Congressman Matt Gaetz Issues Letter to FBI Requesting Briefing on Wuhan Lab Whistleblower Investigation

Contact Your Elected Officials

Washington, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Matt Gaetz (FL-01) sent the following letter this morning to FBI Director Christopher Wray requesting a classified briefing on the FBI’s interactions with Dr. Li-Meng Yan, a whistleblower and defector from China’s Wuhan Institute of Virology.

Earlier this month, during a House Judiciary Committee hearing, Rep. Gaetz questioned Director Wray directly on the FBI’s potential mislabeling of Dr. Yan as a counterintelligence threat – after Dr. Yan fled to the United States in an attempt to expose the true origins of COVID-19.

Full text of the letter sent to FBI Director Wray can be found HERE or below.

LETTER TEXT

The Honorable Christopher Wray
Federal Bureau of Investigation
935 Pennsylvania Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20535

Director Wray:

During our public hearing in the House Judiciary Committee on June 10, 2021, I asked you about the FBI’s interactions with Doctor Li-Meng Yan. In response, you stated that you cannot comment on ongoing investigations.

As a member of the Judiciary Committee with oversight authority over your Bureau, I request the FBI to provide me and my colleagues interested in this subject matter with a classified briefing detailing the FBI’s interactions with Dr. Yan.

I am particularly concerned the FBI may have mislabeled Dr. Yan as a counterintelligence threat, when in reality she was a whistleblower, defector, and fact witness with critical information about the role the Chinese Communist Party had in the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

I expect this classified briefing to take place within two weeks of this request. Please be in touch with my chief of staff to organize this meeting.

Sincerely,
Matt Gaetz
Member of Congress
