Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced she introduced a bill that would make it illegal for children to be exposed to drag queen performances.

“I’m introducing a bill to make it illegal for children to be exposed to Drag Queen performances,” the GOP House representative wrote in a Twitter post. She didn’t provide more information about the bill on Twitter.

Earlier, Greene made reference to a Libs of TikTok video that showed a New Jersey bakery holding a drag show in front of what appear to be children and their parents.

“This needs to be illegal. What’s the difference in children stuffing cash in a drag queen bra and a strippers bra? Nothing. It’s wrong and it’s indoctrination,” she wrote on Twitter.

In Texas, a lawmaker introduced a bill in June at the state level to ban drag shows in front of children. It happened days after a Texas bar held an event called “Drag the kids to Pride: A Family Friendly Drag Show,” which drew protests.

“The events of this past weekend were hogging and show a disturbing need in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children,” Republican Rep. Bryan Slaton said in a statement. “As a father of children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldn’t either.”

He added: “Protecting our own children isn’t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas,” according to the statement.

And in Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis this week threatened to deploy state child protective services on parents who take their kids to drag queen shows, noting that “we have child protective statutes on the books” and that there are “laws against child endangerment.” That statement was made in response to viral videos from the Texas event.

“It used to be kids would be off-limits … used to be [that] everybody agreed with that. Now it just seems like there’s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age-appropriate,” the governor remarked.

GOP lawmakers in Arizona on Tuesday said they are working on a bill to ban drag shows in front of children as well, with Republican state Sen. Vince Leach arguing that exposing children to drag queens will likely have a deleterious effect on the next generation.

“In a civil society, you don’t bring your children up like that,” Leach said, according to local media.

While Republicans have been considering the ban for some time, Leach said that a drag show with children at the Heard Museum earlier this month prompted lawmakers to act. Details about their bill haven’t been provided as Leach said it is a “work in progress.”
