Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) announced she introduced a bill that would make it illegal for children to be exposed to drag queen performances.

โ€œIโ€™m introducing a bill to make it illegal for children to be exposed to Drag Queen performances,โ€ the GOP House representative wrote in aย Twitter post. She didnโ€™t provide more information about the bill on Twitter.

Earlier, Greene made reference to a Libs of TikTokย videoย that showed a New Jersey bakery holding a drag show in front of what appear to be children and their parents.

โ€œThis needs to be illegal. Whatโ€™s the difference in children stuffing cash in a drag queen bra and a strippers bra? Nothing. Itโ€™s wrong and itโ€™s indoctrination,โ€ she wrote on Twitter.

In Texas, a lawmaker introduced a bill in June at the state level to ban drag shows in front of children. It happened days after a Texas bar held an event called โ€œDrag the kids to Pride: A Family Friendly Drag Show,โ€ which drew protests.

โ€œThe events of this past weekend were hogging and show a disturbing need in which perverted adults are obsessed with sexualizing young children,โ€ Republican Rep. Bryan Slaton said in a statement. โ€œAs a father of children, I would never take my children to a drag show and I know Speaker Dade Phelan and the rest of my Republican colleagues wouldnโ€™t either.โ€

He added: โ€œProtecting our own children isnโ€™t enough, and our responsibility as lawmakers extends to the sexualization that is happening across Texas,โ€ according to the statement.

And in Florida, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis this week threatened to deploy state child protective services on parents who take their kids to drag queen shows, noting that โ€œwe have child protective statutes on the booksโ€ and that there are โ€œlaws against child endangerment.โ€ That statement was made in response to viral videos from the Texas event.

โ€œIt used to be kids would be off-limits โ€ฆ used to be [that] everybody agreed with that. Now it just seems like thereโ€™s a concerted effort to be exposing kids more and more to things that are not age-appropriate,โ€ the governor remarked.

GOP lawmakers in Arizona on Tuesday said they are working on a bill to ban drag shows in front of children as well, with Republican state Sen. Vince Leach arguing that exposing children to drag queens will likely have a deleterious effect on the next generation.

โ€œIn a civil society, you donโ€™t bring your children up like that,โ€ Leach said, according to local media.

While Republicans have been considering the ban for some time, Leach said that a drag show with children at the Heard Museum earlier this month prompted lawmakers to act. Details about their bill havenโ€™t been provided as Leach said it is a โ€œwork in progress.โ€
