Dr. Robert Malone on Aug. 19 sued the Washington Post, alleging statements in an article about him were defamatory.

The Jan. 24 article says Malone offered โ€œmisinformationโ€ when he said during a speech that the COVID-19 vaccines โ€œare not workingโ€ against the Omicron virus variant.

As proof, the paper linked to studies by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from January that found a booster shot on top of a primary series was protecting well against severe disease. The studies were published in the agencyโ€™s quasi-journal, which has a stated goal of being aligned with the agencyโ€™s messaging. The centers have repeatedly promoted COVID-19 vaccination during the pandemic.

Later in the speech, Malone said that the vaccines โ€œdo not prevent Omicron infection, viral replication, or spread to others.โ€ That quote was not included in the Postโ€™s article.

โ€œI said nothing about disease and death at that point in time,โ€ Malone told The Epoch Times, accusing the Post of taking a โ€œselective misquoteโ€ and using the CDC study to contest an assertion he never made.

The Post did not respond to a request for comment while an automatic message from the articleโ€™s author, Timothy Bella, said heโ€™s on parental leave until December. Bella provided no evidence in the article that the vaccines were protecting against Omicron infection.

An interview request from Bella to Malone before the article was written, reviewed by The Epoch Times, shows Bella telling Malone that โ€œI have respect for you and your body of workโ€ and that he hoped to โ€œshadow youโ€ during Maloneโ€™s time in Washington, where the doctor delivered the speech at a protest against COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

Ten Statements

Ten of the statements in the article were defamatory, including the statement that Maloneโ€™s claims have been โ€œdiscredited;โ€ that Malone during the speech โ€œrepeated the falsehoods that have garnered him legions of followers;โ€ and that Maloneโ€™s claims are โ€œnot only wrong, but also dangerous,โ€ according toย the 19-page suit, filed in federal court in Charlottesville, Virginia.
