How to Destroy America in Three Easy Steps

A growing number of Americans want to tear down what itโ€™s taken us 250 years to buildโ€”and theyโ€™ll start by canceling our shared history, ideals, and culture.

Traditional areas of civic agreement are vanishing. We canโ€™t agree on what makes America special. We canโ€™t even agree that America is special. Weโ€™re coming to the point that we canโ€™t even agree what the word America itself means. โ€œDisintegrationistsโ€ say weโ€™re stronger together, but their assault on Americaโ€™s history, philosophy, and culture will only tear us apart.

Who are the disintegrationists? From Howard Zinnโ€™s A Peopleโ€™s History of the United States to the New York Timesโ€™ 1619 project, many modern analyses view American history through the lens of competing oppressions, a racist and corrupt experiment from the very beginning. They see American philosophy as a lie โ€“ beautiful words pasted over a thoroughly rotted system. They see Americaโ€™s culture of rights as a faรงade that merely reinforces traditional hierarchies of power.Disintegrationist attacks on the values that built our nation are insidious because they replace each foundational belief, from the rights to free speech and self-defense to the importance of marriage and faith communities, with nothing more than an increased reliance on the government.

This twisted disintegrationist vision replaces the traditional โ€œunionistโ€ understanding that all Americans are united in a shared striving toward the perfection of universal ideals.

How to Destroy America in Three Easy Steps shows that to be a cohesive nation we have to uphold foundational truths about ourselves, our history, and reality itselfโ€”to be unionists instead of disintegrationists. Shapiro offers a vital warning that if we donโ€™t recover these shared truths, our futureโ€”our unionโ€”as a great country is threatened with destruction.

Editorial Reviews

Review

โ€œBen Shapiro knows the power of his voice. He stands up and fights for what he believes with time-tested ideas. The Right Side of History is thoughtful and well-reasoned – exactly what Shapiroโ€™s critics donโ€™t want you to hear.โ€   (Nikki Haley, former permanent representative of the U.S. Mission of the United Nations)

โ€œ[The Right Side of History] is a book for people dying to grow up – a book for a culture that risks devouring itself if the people who comprise it refuse to grow up. Itโ€™s a book most suitable for our immature, confused, complex but exceptionally promising time. I hope the wisdom it contains aids many a troubled soul in finding and treading the straight and narrow path forward and uphill.โ€ (Jordan Peterson, author of 12 Rules for Life)

โ€œIt is easy to lose heart when we see tribalism and moral relativism washing across America. Ben Shapiroโ€™s The Right Side of History is a ray of hope, showing a new generation of leaders how to defend the values that have made our country free and prosperous, and to do so with confidence and generosity.โ€ (Arthur Brooks, author of The Conservative Heart and Love Your Enemies)
