JD Vance to Release Book on His Faith

The 304-page book, which Vance began working on in 2019, would also touch on his experiences in public life.

Vice President JD Vance is set to publish a new book this spring that explores his personal faith journey and conversion to Catholicism.

Titled “Communion: Finding My Way Back to Faith,” the book will be released on June 16 through HarperCollins, the same publisher behind Vance’s bestselling memoir, “Hillbilly Elegy.”

In that earlier work, he chronicled his upbringing in Appalachia and his relationship with his wife, Second Lady Usha Vance.

In a statement, Vance reflected on the themes of his upcoming book, describing it as a deeply personal account of losing and rediscovering faith.

“The story of how I regained my faith only makes sense because I had lost it,” he said, adding that the book wrestles with why his early religious foundation failed to take hold and what ultimately led him back.

The 304-page book, which Vance began working on in 2019, will also touch on his experiences in public life.

Its release is likely to fuel speculation about a potential 2028 presidential run, though Vance has not indicated whether he plans to enter the race.

Several prominent Democrats who could also be eyeing 2028 have recently published books, including former Vice President Kamala Harris, California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro, and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear.

Vance’s publication is notable in another way: he is the first sitting vice president in recent memory to release a book while in office.

Past vice presidents, such as Mike Pence and Walter Mondale, published their works after leaving office or during other stages of their careers.

The book will delve into Vance’s evolving beliefs—from his Christian upbringing to a period of atheism, and ultimately to his conversion to Catholicism in 2019.

He has credited his faith with providing a sense of meaning he did not find during his time at Yale University or in the financial sector.
