Iran has formally presented to Pakistani mediators its response to the latest U.S. proposal to end the war.
Iran has formally presented to Pakistani mediators its response to the latest U.S. proposal to end the war, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported Sunday. IRNA is the official, state-run news agency of the Iranian regime.
Pakistan brokered a ceasefire between Iran and the United States that stopped nearly 40 days of warfare, according to IRNA.
The report of the Iranian response followed news that a Qatari natural gas tanker crossed the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday, marking the first time since the start of the war that a Qatari liquified natural gas tanker had transited the strait.
The tanker is en route to Pakistan, according to LSEG shipping data.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy routes, carrying about 25 percent of the world’s seaborne oil trade. A Qatari tanker getting through after weeks of disruptions suggests Iran may be allowing limited passage, which could signal early diplomatic progress or at least a temporary easing of tensions.
The United Kingdom stated Saturday it was deploying the HMS Dragon, a destroyer, to the Strait of Hormuz. The HMS Dragon was previously in the Eastern Mediterranean in March, and its move to the Middle East follows France’s deployment of a carrier strike group to the Red Sea as Britain and France join forces to protect the vital trade route.
The Kuwait army posted on Sunday on X that it detected hostile drones in its airspace.
The spokesperson for the Kuwait Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Saud Abdulaziz Al-Otaibi, stated that the armed forces detected at dawn a number of hostile drones within its airspace. The Kuwait army said the hostile drones were dealt with in accordance with established procedures.
The United States and Iran have maintained an uneasy ceasefire since April 7. The United States has maintained a blockade of Iranian ports since April 13.
This is a developing story and will be updated.
