The lawyer represented President Trump during his efforts to challenge the accuracy of count leading to the 2020 election results.

A California judge issued a recommendation on Wednesday that attorney John Eastman, who advised then-President Donald Trump, be disbarred in the state over his efforts to challenge the accuracy of the 2020 election results.

The opinion by State Bar Court of California Judge Yvette Roland serves as a recommendation to the California Supreme Court, which will next decide on whether Mr. Eastman should lose his state law license.

The recommendation comes after a lengthy trial and can be appealed by the ex-Trump attorney.

Mr. Eastman, who represented President Trump as he sought to challenge the accuracy of count leading to the 2020 election results, faces 11 disciplinary charges in the state bar court. Mr. Eastman helped develop a legal strategy to have then-Vice President Mike Pence refuse to certify the election results during the Jan. 6 Joint Session of Congress.

However, Mr. Pence ultimately went ahead to certify the election results.

The California State Bar Court, an administrative arm of the California Supreme Court dedicated to attorney discipline and serving as a regulatory agency, alleged that Mr. Eastman acted in violation of the state’s business and professional codes.

The agency accused the attorney of making false and misleading statements that constitute acts of “moral turpitude, dishonesty, and corruption.”

Mr. Eastman allegedly “violated this duty in furtherance of an attempt to usurp the will of the American people and overturn election results for the highest office in the land—an egregious and unprecedented attack on our democracy,” according to the agency.
