Former President Barack Obama gave a speech with the Stanford Cyber Policy Center where he called for deeper government control over the Internet and over information, in a move he said is needed to protect “democracy.” Soon after, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also commented online that more needs to be done to regulate information in order for governments to fight alleged “disinformation.” Clinton also promoted the Digital Services Act package through the United Nations, which would create several EU regulations on the Internet, including a law to forbid alleged disinformation.

Meanwhile, information companies often accused of having a left-wing bias took major hits. CNN+ closed after just 21 days, with a $300 million loss. Disney lost an estimated $35 million after a leaked video showed company heads discussing a sexual agenda for content. Netflix lost an estimated 35 percent of its shares, with a loss of around $400 million. And as Elon Musk announced that he has potentially secured the money needed to buy Twitter, the team around former President Donald Trump’s Truth Social platform announced they now have the server capacity needed to fully launch the new social network.

In this live Q&A with Crossroads host Joshua Philipp, we’ll discuss these stories and others, and answer questions from the audience.
