The Senate has now confirmed 136 of the president’s law and order nominees.
The Senate on Friday confirmed four U.S. attorneys, four U.S. marshals, and the inspector general for the Department of Justice in a package of 74 executive nominees, advancing by a 51–47 vote.
The 119th Congress has advanced 141 of President Donald Trump’s law and order nominees, despite pushback by Democrats. That total includes 11 circuit judges, 46 district judges, one Court of International Trade judge, 48 U.S. attorneys and 12 U.S. marshals. The Senate has now confirmed 136 of those nominees.
“U.S. Attorneys and U.S. Marshals are vital parts of our nation’s law enforcement system – responsible for prosecuting violent criminals, protecting the American public and enforcing the rule of law,” Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley said. “As chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, I’ve been proud to advance and confirm President Trump’s law and order nominees to protect communities across America.”
The newly confirmed U.S. attorneys set to take up positions across the country are Kenneth Sorenson for the District of Hawaii, Timothy VerHey for the Western District of Michigan, Sean Costello for the Southern District of Alabama, and Christopher Nassar for the Northern District of Oklahoma.
The U.S. marshals confirmed are Johnson TeeHee II for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, James Arnott for the Western District of Missouri, Jack Chambers for the Southern District of West Virginia and Jason Holt for the Northern District of Oklahoma. In addition, Don Berthiaume was confirmed as inspector general for the Department of Justice.
Such nominees for these roles have historically been confirmed in the Senate on a bipartisan basis without delay, though in 2025 Senate Democrats held up all of Trump’s 93 U.S. attorney nominations, the Judiciary Committee said in a statement announcing the confirmations.
In October 2025, the Senate confirmed 16 U.S. attorneys in a package of 107 executive nominees.
“Before Senate Democrats shut down the federal government, they shut down the Senate floor—freezing the confirmation process,” Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-Wyo.) said at the time of the vote. “For months, their blockade created a growing backlog of qualified, bipartisan nominees. Tonight, Senate Republicans confirmed 107 of those qualified nominees and ended the Democrats’ confirmation blockade.”
A December 2025 package brought confirmation of 14 more U.S. attorneys. In May 2026, the Senate approved 13 U.S. attorneys and eight U.S. marshals in a separate package.
Berthiaume’s confirmation installs a permanent inspector general at the Justice Department and will be tasked with overseeing department operations and investigating allegations against employees and programs.
Under Grassley, the committee has confirmed 136 nominees, with packages requiring majority support after earlier holds prevented the traditional voice-vote or unanimous-consent routes.
