The Most Consequential Meeting In Modern Politics

5Mind. The Meme Platform

GOP fundraiser Caroline Wren says that Republicans and their donors need to completely rethink their strategy for winning elections, and she takes inspiration from a strange source, a 2004 meeting called by Democrat mega-donor George Soros.

“In 2004, the Democrats had just lost the House, the Senate and the presidency, and George Soros called a meeting and he invited the top 30 progressive donors in the country and they invited a few of the political operatives on the Democratic side, and Soros and the other donors said we just collectively spent hundreds of millions of dollars and we have nothing to show for it. We are done giving you any money until you come back to us with a plan that involves investing in institutions, ideas, people that live beyond one election cycle. And we’re 15 years out from that meeting and I think it’s the most consequential meeting that has happened in modern politics.”
