US Military Intercepts Iranian Missiles Launched Toward Regional Nations, Conducts Strikes

U.S. Central Command said Iran launched missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain on June 2, but none of them reached their intended targets.

The U.S. military said on Tuesday that its forces intercepted multiple Iranian ballistic missiles and drone attacks launched toward regional nations in the Middle East.

In a statement, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Iran launched ballistic missiles toward Kuwait and Bahrain on June 2, but none of them reached their intended targets.

“Two Iranian missiles fired at Kuwait fell short or broke apart enroute, and three missiles launched at Bahrain were immediately intercepted by U.S. and Bahrain air defense forces,” it stated.

CENTCOM said Iran also launched three attack drones toward civilian mariners that were transiting in regional waters, which were later shot down by U.S. forces.

In response to the attacks, the U.S. military conducted what it called self-defense strikes targeting an Iranian military ground control station on Iran’s Qeshm Island.

“No U.S. personnel were harmed. CENTCOM forces remain vigilant and ready to defend against unwarranted Iranian aggression during the ongoing ceasefire,” the command stated.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it responded by targeting U.S. air and helicopter bases stationed in one of the regional countries, the semi-official Fars News Agency reported on June 3.

“We had previously warned that any act of aggression would be met with a different and heavier response, and we acted accordingly,” the IRGC was quoted as saying by the news agency.

In a subsequent post on X, CENTCOM said another wave of Iranian drones targeting U.S. forces in Kuwait “failed to impact intended targets” and that some were intercepted by its air defenses.

Kuwait activated an emergency plan at its international airport on June 3 after an Iranian drone and missile attack hit the airport, according to a statement posted by Kuwait’s General Civil Aviation Authority.

The attack caused “severe damage” to the airport and injured an unspecified number of people, the agency said. Flights have been suspended and diverted to alternative airports until further notice.

Kuwait’s Ministry of Defense said in a separate post that its forces are monitoring the situation and are prepared to respond and take all necessary measures to protect national security.
