What Is A Constitutional Sheriff?

Whenever a state legislature passes overreaching violations of their constituents’ civil liberties, or the federal government attempts to impose unconstitutional gun laws, there is a Constitutional Sheriff who can stand in their way.

Recent events have shown that local and federal politicians are eager to impose authoritarian measures in the name of “the common good.” But for every vaccine mandate, forced masking, and order used to commandeer the rights of property owners or small business operators, there is a Constitutional Sheriff who can uphold our rights.

But what exactly is a “Constitutional Sheriff?”

What is a Constitutional Sheriff?

In an attempt to disparage the sheriffs fighting for our God given liberties, partisan mainstream media outlet, NBC, once derisively called Constitutional Sheriffs as “The Cops Who Think the Government is Our ‘Greatest Threat.’”

But the Constitutional Sheriff movement, spearheaded by former Graham County Arizona Sheriff, Richard Mack, defines the responsibility of the Constitutional Sheriff below:

“…to keep the peace and to secure, defend and protect the people of this jurisdiction from threats to their liberties, their livelihoods, and the peaceable enjoyment of their property.

The nature of that solemn oath requires that the actions of the sheriff in the performance of his duty must conform to the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of this State.“

The above excerpt is part of the Constitutional Sheriff’s Oath put forward by Sheriff Mack’s organization, the Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association (CSPOA).

The Role of Constitutional Sheriffs

Constitutional Sheriffs are condemned because they are effective backstops against the ever-increasing size of government, and most importantly, because they recognize the Constitution of the United States, in concordance with state constitutions, to be the supreme law of the land.

Arbitrary laws passed by legislators (or unlawful edicts penned by overreaching executives) in direct defiance of these documents are therefore considered inherently illegitimate by the Constitutional Sheriff and should not be enforced.

To find out if your local sheriff is a Constitutional Sheriff, see the strategy presented by the Constitutional Sheriffs & Peace Officers Association at CSPOA.org.
