IN-DEPTH: Former Congresswoman Calls for Immediate Exit From the WHO

A former Minnesota congresswoman is calling for an immediate exit from the World Health Organization (WHO) as it inches closer to establishing governance over nations during a declared public health emergency.

โ€œThis is very serious, and itโ€™s approaching faster than anyone realized,โ€ Michele Bachmann told The Epoch Times.

Bachmann, now dean of the Robertson School of Government at Regent University in Virginia Beach, Virginia, was a U.S. representative for Minnesotaโ€™s 6th Congressional District from 2007 to 2015, as well as a candidate for the 2012 presidential election.

In May, Bachmann attended the WHOโ€™s 76th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, where national leaders discussed the draft of a pandemic treaty and 307 proposed amendments to the 2005 International Health Regulations.

The regulations, first adopted in 1969 and updated in 2005, are described by the WHO as an โ€œoverarching legal frameworkโ€ of international law to which 196 countries are legally bound to regulate the โ€œrights and obligations in handling public health events and emergencies that have the potential to cross borders.โ€

The assembly made no deciding vote on the amendments or bureau text (pdf), Bachmann said.

Whatโ€™s unusual, she added, is that it didnโ€™t discuss the WHOโ€™s announcement on June 5 that it would be adopting the European Unionโ€™s (EU) digital COVID-19 vaccine passport system, leaving Bachmann to question the WHOโ€™s authority to make final decisions without a discussion or vote.

โ€œNothing was mentioned at the assembly in Geneva, so thatโ€™s extremely strange,โ€ Bachmann said.

The vaccine passport system will not only be used for surveillance, tracking, and tracing of travel but also for the monitoring of an individualโ€™s compliance with decisions and mandates made by the WHO, Bachmann said.

โ€œBut that is just the building block,โ€ she said. โ€œThey made it clear that they are planning on adding to this digital compliance.โ€

There are components of the bureau text itself that would create what Bachmann called a โ€œmedical dictatorship.โ€

โ€œThe powers that are envisioned will cover areas such as the environment, racism, poverty, and climate change,โ€ she said. โ€œThe powers are so broad, and theyโ€™re written in such a bureaucratized way, that they essentially arrogate to them unlimited power over all its member states.โ€
