It is not clear whether Trump’s comment on Truth Social was light-hearted or genuine support for the suggestion.

President Donald Trump reacted positively on April 26 to a social media message urging him to add the word ‘National’ to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency, changing it to NICE.

In a post on X on March 25, influencer Alyssa Mariiee wrote, “I want Trump to change ICE to NICE (National Immigration and Customs Enforcement) so the media has to say NICE agents all day and every day.”

“GREAT IDEA!!! DO IT,” Trump replied, after posting the X post on Truth Social on Sunday evening.

In another post on X on April 27, Alyssa Mariiee, who describes herself as a journalist, wrote, “Surreal being posted by my favorite president.”

Her original post, suggesting changing ICE’s name to NICE, now has 880,000 views.

But during his second term in office, he changed the name of the Department of Defense to the Department of War and ordered the Gulf of Mexico to be renamed as the Gulf of America.

In an executive order issued on the day of his second inauguration, Jan. 20, 2025, Trump also ordered Mount McKinley in Alaska to revert to its original name after a decade as Denali.

ICE Created in 2003

ICE was created in March 2003, under the Homeland Security Act, by President George W. Bush.

Congress granted ICE, which is a branch of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), a “unique combination of civil and criminal authorities to better protect national security and public safety in answer to the tragic events on 9/11.”

ICE has more than 20,000 personnel in more than 400 offices in the United States and around the world, and an annual budget of $8 billion.

In June 2025, Trump directed ICE to expand their efforts to detain and deport illegal immigrants in the country.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described it as the “largest mass deportation operation of illegal aliens in history.”
