The latest videos released show a mysterious object flying over a residential area and an orb shooting past a military vessel.
The fifth release of 41 new UFO files and videos by the U.S. Department of War Aug. 7 revealed a report describing a “dead crewman” found aboard a crashed metal balloon in Brazil and a pilot’s account of a massive flying triangular object in Afghanistan.
Videos released show a mysterious object flying over a residential area, an orb shooting past a military vessel, and a clip of a black sphere hovering over the Pacific Ocean.
The latest collection was announced by Chief Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell on Aug. 7.
“The Department of War and our agency partners are actively working on the next release of UAP files,” Parnell said, referring to unidentified anomalous phenomena.
The Pentagon uploaded the first tranche of 161 files to its website on May 8 after President Donald Trump called for the release of the documents in an executive order earlier this year, resulting in the declassification of hundreds of files and videos.
Among the documents released Friday was a telegram addressed to the secretary of state in Washington, D.C., written on Nov. 14, 1963, from a U.S. Embassy. It describes the report of a “large metal manned balloon” that was found with a “dead crewman aboard wearing [a] uniform or spacesuit with strange markings.”
The report also said a 4-meter-deep crater formed when the balloon-like object impacted the ground.
A follow-up report to the secretary of state on Nov. 20, 1963, stated the report of a crashed balloon-type object was fabricated.
Another file released Friday was an intelligence review from January 1947.
The report described “ghost rockets” spotted over Finland and Denmark in 1946 by residents who reported shiny cigar-shaped objects that looked like balls of fire with tails that flew “lightning fast.”
The objects were suspected to be part of a new Soviet missile program, but Swedish officials were reluctant to publicly acknowledge the matter, according to the report.
Another document from Nov. 3, 1948, about flying object incidents in the United States was sent to the commanding general at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio by U.S. Air Force Director of Intelligence Charles P. Cabell.
“The conclusion appears inescapable that some type of flying object has been observed. Identification and the origin of these objects is not discernible to this Headquarters,” the report stated.
The objects included a flat circular disc, a torpedo or cigar-shaped aircraft with wings visible in flight, spherical or balloon-shaped objects, and balls of light with no apparent form attached.
“Although explanation of many of the incidents can be obtained from the investigations described above, there remains a certain number of reports for which no reasonable everyday explanation is available,” U.S. Air Force Col. Howard M. McCoy, chief of the intelligence department wrote in a memo. “The possibility that the reported objects are vehicles from another planet has not been ignored.”
In another file, unidentified aerial phenomena were reported during military exercises in the Gulf of Oman in 2021.
In October 2023, federal agents took several reports from pilots who said they witnessed the same event occurring. The pilots described seeing lights in the sky between midnight and 3 a.m. over both Boston and Dublin.
The files also contained one report of a large black airborne triangle hovering above Bagram Air Force Base in Afghanistan in June 2002. The report came from a former military service member who said he noticed the stars were getting blacked out over the base and it appeared as if something huge was moving silently from west to east.
Another black triangle object was reportedly seen hovering in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in October 2023 by a former Department of War employee. A rendering was drawn by the FBI this year as a visual aid showing two people standing in a residential backyard looking up at a triangle-like object flying above the houses in the night sky.
A citizen also reported seeing the triangle object but with red lights at the corners in Colorado Springs in 2023.
A third “dark triangle” with lights on the corners was depicted by the FBI in a digital rendering this year from reports by U.S. military personnel who said they witnessed the object in June or July 2011. The location was not given.
